"We resolved the issue with the capacitor and it turns out the problem was the circuit breaker. He notified us about the fan motor going bad and gave us a 30 day quote for when we’re able to afford it. Brian was a great communicator and very informative about the unit and the components. We’ll definitely schedule our next appointment with David Gray for future a/c work."

"I received a new heat pump and new ac unit today. The technician that installed it all was very nice and even helped me shut off the fire alarm that went off when he was soldering in the garage, I have very high ceilings and he brought the ladder in and turned it off and then made sure to hook it back up after he was done. It was a hot day and he did everything promised and showed me how to connect the unit to my Wi-Fi and all. Thank you so much for all the hard work you did. Checked the ductwork and all. Just very pleased"

"The tech who came out to re-evaluate what another HVAC company told me was a defective central A/C compressor, re-tested the start capacitor and determined that it, and not the compressor, was defective. He replaced the capacitor, and the system has been working just fine without replacing what was still a good compressor - saved us over $1,400 (which is what the first company quoted to replace the compressor)."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are a few reasons your AC is running but not cooling your room. Thermostat issues and dust and debris, which can clog your system, are common problems. It could also be a broken component, such as a compressor, blower fan, or evaporator coils. You’ll need to call a pro to diagnose the issue.

While both have advantages, a split system is generally cheaper than a ducted one. Because they are less invasive to install, the labor costs are lower, and they can be more energy efficient. But, a ducted system might be worth the investment if you run it more frequently.

Whether an HVAC damper should be open or closed depends on the season, the zone it controls, and the temperature in that zone. In the summer, open upstairs dampers and close lower-level dampers to get the most efficient cooling possible. In the winter, do the opposite. Cool air will naturally flow down to lower levels, while warm air will rise. This keeps your system from working harder and helps prevent common AC problems.

If your HVAC system's capacity doesn't match the required CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute), imbalances can occur. An undersized system struggles to maintain desired temperatures, leading to discomfort. An oversized system might short-cycle, wasting energy and causing temperature fluctuations. Properly matching capacity to CFM ensures efficient and consistent heating, cooling, and home ventilation system performance.

Replacing an HVAC system does not always include new ductwork. The decision depends on the condition of your existing ducts. If they are in good shape, correctly sized for the new unit, and meet current standards, they can often be reused. However, if the ducts are damaged, poorly designed, or improperly sized, they will likely need to be replaced or upgraded to ensure the new system operates efficiently. An HVAC contractor will assess your ductwork and recommend the best course of action. Typically, ductwork is purchased separately, and a full replacement will add to the overall project cost.
