Discount Garage Doors has been serving 18 counties in Central Florida since 1998. We have 14 office employees and 29 technicians and installers. Our company was founded upon the principle of repairing garage doors properly for a fair price. Our reputation is well known in the areas we service, and more than 70% of our jobs are from referrals or repeat customers. We are family owned and operated, not a franchise or national company, which allows us to monitor closely the quality of our work. We use the absolute highest quality doors, operators, and repair parts, each one undergoing a strict quality assurance program. Our standard residential service call charge is $35.00, but we waive this for Angie's List members. In addition, we offer a 10% discount for jobs over $100.00 to members. We do not charge extra for after hours calls.

"Major issues with Sun Barrier response and scheduling. However, no issue with Sun Barrier cashing our check. We received a quote from Sun Barrier on March 8, 2018. We sent an email response to the quote on March 15, 2018 and there was no response. We send a second email message as well as a phone message on April 25th since we didn’t hear back from the March 15 email we sent to Sun Barrier. We sent another email was sent to Sun Barrier on April 27th and found out that there was an issue with our email response going to Sun Barrier junk email (Sun Barrier should check junk email, if this is a reoccurring problem or have IT set differing parameters). On May 12th Sun Barrier requested additional information to continue with the contract. We reacted quickly to move this project forward (since we started it in March). We were told on May 16th that once the deposit was received we would have someone out to complete final measurements in 4-5 weeks with installation shortly following. On May 19th, we sent a message to Karla that we signed the contract and sent a deposit of $1863 that was cashed on May 24th by Sun Barrier. So, our timeline expectation was four weeks at June 21st or five weeks at June 28th. However, those weeks came and went. To follow up, we have sent numerous emails and phone calls to get a timeline on final measurement and installation. We sent an email on July 2nd to check the status of final measurements with no Sun Barrier response. We sent a second email on July 9th to check the status, with no Sun Barrier respond. We sent a third email on July 12th to check the status, with no email response. We called Sun Barrier the week of July 12th to check the status and finally got a response and were told another four weeks of wait time (outside the original agreement). However, on July 13th we were told we had an appointment with Chuck the next week. However, that appointment for measurement was never confirmed by Sun Barrier. We were asked to schedule for the next week and we told Sun Barrier the following Thursday or Friday would be fine. However, once again, we have received no return emails or phone calls. Then again, on July 28th we sent another email trying to get a response. We’re not sure what is going on within the company, but this is very bad business. How many times do we need to call and email for a service? For being an A rated Angie’s list provider, we are extremely disappointed. Sun Barrier cashed our deposit on May 24th and we are going into week 10 (definitely not the 4-5 weeks we were quoted). Had we known the difficulties we would be facing, we would have chosen a different company."

Randall Anderson, owner of Randall's remodel repair has been serving the Orlando area for over 20 years providing quality remodeling, home repair and building services of all types.

"We hired Randall after checking reviews on Angie's List, Nextdoor and checking the BBB. There was nothing but praise for the work he had done for people. We came to an agreement on price and the work started fine. After a short time he started showing up less and less and the project drug out. We kept giving draws every time he asked for money until most of the work was paid for, though not complete. On July 27th Randall asked for another $1000, thank goodness it took a little while for my wife to get a break so she could write a check, when she took it down to him all of his tools, etc., were gone. He left the job unfinished (about 75% complete) and when we gave him notice of abandonment he replied by email to sue him but we wouldn't get much from a defunct company with no assets. The stucco was not finished, the door that was installed was not sealed around frame (open to the elements), electrical unfinished, water faucet not installed, screen pool cage frame and screen not replaced, holes in wall not repaired, balcony rail not complete, balusters not compliant or grouted, gutter not reattached, lights in pantry and under balcony not installed, trim around kitchen window not installed, French door hanging loose, hinge screws not tightened, and none of the painting has been completed. Then there is the damage to other items from not protecting them while work was performed such as stucco globs all over the poos deck, the pool deck drain is blocked by stucco and or concrete, pavers brick missing (don't know where that went, it was there when work started), stucco and grout left in the yard what was St. Augustine. I am sure there are things I missed, but this shows Mr. Anderson is not of the same character as he was at some point in the past."

Hurricane Shutters questions, answered by experts

Clean regularly, check for rust, and lubricate moving parts to ensure smooth operation.

Hurricane shutters cost about $3,700 on average, ranging from $1,500 to 5,900, depending on the style, size, materials, and your location. Materials may include metal, plastic, fabric, or wood.

Additional cost factors to consider include the number of windows, the time of year you install, and necessary permits. Keep in mind that if you purchase and install hurricane shutters during hurricane season, namely June through November in most states, you can expect to pay more due to increased demand.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Hurricane shutters can add value to your home by protecting windows from flying debris during a storm and possibly reducing your home insurance premiums, likely appealing to potential home buyers. The material also plays a role in the value of the hurricane shutters. For example, plywood hurricane shutters are a more temporary solution that likely will not impact home insurance costs even if it can save your windows and doors from damage.

Yes, most services include resealing and weatherproofing to improve durability. Confirm with your contractor.
