"My toilet over flowed from the top causing water to flood my bathroom and bedroom entry. I called Tim at A Plumbing Pro He said he could be here Monday at 9am. He was right on time, very professional and very nice. Then work was done quickly and perfectly. He put in new innards and replaced the water line. And the price was very reasonable. I will definitely use him again should I need to. Thank you Tim. Linda F."

"We've been with them for at least five years and recently renewed our service contract for another three. I've NEVER loved a plumbing service but these guys are always outstanding. And Kyle was here early yesterday and installed a new kitchen sink food disposal - reasonably priced and completed in an hour or less. Over the years they're replaced a toilet and hot water tank...we simply love Next Plumbing!"

"I contacted Eugene of Conquer The Clog about 4 PM yesterday to address my clog. He said he could come to our house in about 2 hours to check it out. He arrived around 6 PM and went to work. He removed a toilet that was the most distant one in our house and started to snake out the clog. He put approximately 75â of the snake into the toilet drain and broke up the clog and everything drained properly. We flushed the other 2 toilets in the house, ran the showers, and ran the bathtub several times to make sure everything was clear. It was so he replaced the toilet with a new reinforced wax ring and everything is back in working order. Eugene cleaned up and completed the work around 8 PM. I highly recommend Eugene and his company Conquer The Clog. Check out his website to see all their services www.ctclogs.com. Thanks Eugene for a great job!"

"Mike responded quickly by phone. He arrived on time, was polite, instilled confidence, gave quote before doing work and did an excellent job. He repaired our toilet and replaced the shutoff valves to 2 of our toilets. I highly recommend him."

"I live in quite a old house. I am in the process of making a huge a cross country move, and in the middle of that hassle, the sewerage system backed up and there was soot and yuck! in the bath tub and toilet (of course the toilet wouldn't flush). I called Jose about 2:30 in the afternoon and he and his co-worker came out, diagnosed, fixed the problem by 4:30 PM. I live in Port Charlotte and he drove in from Port Myers. I could tell almost immediately he was professional and knew what he was doing. Both gentlemen were very pleasant and Jose took the time to tell the landlord what the problem was, and what he needed to do. For plumbing emergency, the price was reasonable and well worth it. If I weren't moving and had any other plumbing issue, he would get my business for sure."

"We call on a Saturday morning and he arrived shortly after and on time - great! We had two blocked toilets and flooding - he looked around and found the problem and was able to fix everything and explain to us how to fix the blocked toilet if it happens again! He had quoted us a price when we called based on our description and he reduced the bill by quite a bit when he looked over the problem, saw what was involved and solved it - excellent!! We thought it would have been a huge job given We will not only use him again for anything plumbing related but we will highly recommend him to all our friends. Paul should be your first call when you need a plumber any day of the week."

"We remodeled two bathrooms completely, removing a tub in one, building out the showers and vanities in both. The bathrooms were completely re-tiled and refinished. This is our second project with Ken. He worked with us from the design and permits through construction and the final inspection, providing guidance and excellent craftsmanship from both his team and his sub-contractors. We are very happy with the results. We recommend him highly and he will be our first call on any future projects."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The toilet should rest 10, 12, or 14 inches from the back wall. As for other clearances, 15 inches is the minimum distance from the flange to any side wall or nearby fixture, including the shower, tub, and sink. Modern codes also require at least 24 inches of clear space in front of the toilet.

No, your toilet tank should not empty completely when you flush. Although the water level will dip a lot after you flush, it shouldn’t be totally empty. If your tank is empty, you might have issues with your fill valve, float ball, or toilet trip lever. You should check all of your toilet parts to ensure they’re working correctly and make any necessary adjustments.

The first step to clearing the air in a line is to locate the cause. This is usually a blockage in either the drain or the venting system. Once you clear the issue, flush the system by actually flushing the toilets repeatedly. This should allow the trapped air to escape, thus clearing the lines. Don’t be surprised if there is increased bubbling as the air makes its way through the system.

It is okay to use a drain auger on a toilet, just make sure you are using the correct tip size. The auger is a plumbing snake with a protective sleeve to protect the porcelain toilet bowl from getting scratched. Using too large of an auger can cause the snake to loop back and damage the inside of the drain and plumbing.

You definitely can over-tighten toilet tank bolts. Unlike some other materials, porcelain can’t bend or flex, so when you over-tighten a screw into it, it could break against the added pressure. Only tighten them as much as needed to keep them in place and firm; any more and you could risk breaking the porcelain.
