"Great! I called Monday to have them come out as a 2nd opinion. Technician arrived Wednesday morning. He was way more thorough than the previous company I had come out, he tested inside & outside water. Then explained what the problem was -- I needed to have been adding potassium permanganate to my system. He was able to get a sales consultant out the same day to review my options with me if I was to get a new tank to avoid having to add this pretty pricy chemical every couple days to remove the odor. Still waiting to hear back on that but I have a good feeling this company knows what they're doing-- as opposed to their competitor."

"LaRosa's Plumbing cleared a drain in my house from roots and other debris. It was a dirty job and when everything was done the area was clean. The gentleman worked continuously, was punctual and pleasant. He had to unseat the toilet and reseated it with a great caulking job. There was no upselling--only the business at hand."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.

The most practical and common setup is a toilet that connects with the sewer line or a septic tank. However, it is possible to install a toilet without a sewer line, and this can be particularly helpful in basements with no or outdated plumbing. An increasingly popular option is an environmentally friendly composting toilet. Other waterless options include incinerating or dry flush toilets, which pull the waste into an airtight container.

Check connections, clean fixtures, and apply finishing or protective coatings to preserve months' worth of shine and functionality.

After flushing the toilet, you should have about half a tank full of water. While the exact amount of water you’ll have will vary, you want to make sure you have enough to cover the bottom of the bowl and enough to sit above the P-trap drain. While low water in your toilet bowl can indicate a problem, too much water can also be cause for concern.

The biggest sign that your flange leaks is if you notice water at the base of the toilet. The cause is likely due to a poor flange installation, so you might have issues with loose bolts, an uneven flange, or a cracked plastic flange. Add a deteriorating wax seal to this, and you have a recipe for disaster. The best solution is to shut off the water valve, replace the toilet flange, and seal it with a new wax ring.
