"I do use Service America as a rule for everyday things and they've been fantastic, except that sometimes they can't get you.  If it's a matter of an air conditioner or if your refrigerator goes out, they'll come right away.  But if it's a normal kind of thing, you may have to wait a week.  It's a home warranty - yes.  We were having trouble with our refrigerator, we started having troubles, and they came out and first they did this, first they did that, and finally they gave us a new circuit board.  They would have given us a new refrigerator if that hadn't worked.  And it didn't cost a penny.  They do the air conditioning, they do the plumbing, my garbage disposal; they do almost everything ... except for the time wait, and that's only if you don't have an emergency.  I've enjoyed them very much.  It took them a couple of tries to fix the dishwasher.  So they've been very good.  They're very prompt except for emergencies; if you don't have an emergency, you can plan to wait a week and sometimes that's a long time.  Usually the refrigerator / freezer, they come out.  They could use some more people.  I pay $579 per year.  I have a lot of things and it's nice knowing that you can just not worry about it.  The people are wonderful, and they give you tips.  I can't say enough about the people.  I like them a lot.  It's just that they don't have enough people; it's not that they're being snarky or anything.  The quality is awesome - yes - they keep after it until they get it.  They are very professional. "

"Willie and Travis (and crew) were at my house on-time and ready to get on with the complicated and complex job of installing a complete new residential air conditioning system. Willie did a fantastic job of assessing my current system, offering many helpful suggestions and ideas. Willie is NOT a salesman: he tells it like it is, takes photos to show what's going on and gives a realistic assessment of what needs to be done. He always has safety as a priority - our house will be better off with this new system. Travis and team did a fantastic job: everything in and running in under 4 hours. Cleaned up and hauled off all the all stuff. A top notch job from start to finish. And, at a very good price to boot.

"Mike showed up for the appointment when expected and proceeded to clean my vents that were previously cleaned by another company for a cost of $1200.  He showed me the dirt that he extracted from my vents.  I was amazed at how this other company had appeared to do the job for me when in reality they did nothing.
The other companies agent was dressed very sloppy.  Mike has a very neat professional appearance and does a great job.  I would recommend Mike to anyone needing this service.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.

There are ways to detect a refrigerant leak with several different testing methods. However, most homeowners can figure out something’s wrong with their AC unit by noticing these common signs:

  • Ice forming on the evaporator coil

  • Water leaks near the AC unit

  • Frequent hissing sounds

  • Increased electric bills

  • Unit takes longer than usual to cool

  • Unit is blowing hot air

A window AC unit is not completely silent. You’ll hear the sound of air blowing, and if you put your ear right up next to the unit, you may hear a slight hiss or gurgle as the refrigerant flows through the system. That said, if your system is making a running water sound, a loud banging sound, a grinding sound, or physically vibrating, you may be facing an issue or malfunction with your AC unit.

On a summer day, expect your AC to run between 12 and 16 hours. However, this time frame depends on just how hot it is outside and the comfortable temperature you’re hoping to maintain indoors. Assuming the size of your AC is appropriate for the space you’re trying to cool, it shouldn’t be a problem for it to work this many hours.

Evaporator coils in an HVAC system typically last between 10 and 15 years, which is roughly the same lifespan as the entire AC unit. The longevity of the coils can be affected by usage frequency, environmental conditions, and how well they are maintained. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspections, can extend their durability. If the evaporator coil fails in an older air conditioner, it may be more cost-effective to replace the whole unit rather than just the coil.
