"I had a really good experience with Hometown Contractors. Jordan was honest, professional, and actually took the time to explain everything in a way that made sense. I appreciated that he wasn?t trying to upsell me or push work that didn?t need to be done. The whole process felt straightforward and stress-free, and the quality of the work came out great. You can tell they actually care about doing the job the right way. I?d definitely recommend them and would use them again"

"When we first called Carl for a garage shelving estimate, he said he was in the area and would be by within an hour. We talked with him about what we'd like to have built and where we'd like it. He completely understood our needs, asked some intelligent questions, gave some valuable advice, and gave a good estimate for labor costs. He'd buy and bring the material to do the job and provide us with the receipt so we could reimburse him. We set a date for the next week. He arrived on time along with his adult son and all the materials he had bought for us plus all of his work gear. They set to work unloading our garage shelves (most of which were already containerized and boxed) into the middle of the garage floor. They worked very hard and very smart. The shelving was done perfectly on all three sides of the garage exactly like we had requested. They loaded our new shelves back up exactly where we wanted things and left some for us to do on our own at our request. They were very courteous, kind, efficient, and did an outstanding job. We've already asked Carl to come back and do some work for the interior of our home.

"Wells Asphalt Paving did a great job! One day to tear out the old driveway and put in new gravel base, then a few days later laid the new asphalt. Efficient, explained things well and most important, did a great job at a reasonable cost. The neighbors are already commenting on day one!"

"I needed my 16 yr old sprinkler system to be repaired since we bought the house a year ago and have not been able to use it. I called several companies to come out and give me a quote, the first and 2nd company wanted to charge me my 1st born and have me do all the digging myself basically. I was ready to just give up when I decided to check out 1 more place Home Advisor sent me the info for, that's where Buddy's company Jenkins prop solutions showed up, read the reviews (Which I normally don't trust anymore due to so many bad experiences) but I decided to call him Sunday afternoon, he just sounded like a pleasant polite man, and he said he would be out the next day Monday so I said ok let's see what we get. Buddy updated me throughout that he was stuck in traffic etc etc and when he arrived he diagnosed the problem right away, found the wires underground that had been cut, checked all my sprinkler heads which were many with this Hunter system, and replaced those that needed it. Before he fixed them Buddy gave me the option to do it myself to save money! I almost thought this guy was too good to be true but you know what he said it himself, I may not make as much as these other guys because I don't overcharge people but I will be passing down this company to my kids and I want people to remember my company for how we treated them. For two hours of work plus all the sprinklers he had to fix it was an extremely fair price. We need more businesses in every area to operate like Buddy, if only that was easy to find. So now I have my trusted lawn guy and my A/C guy with Freedom Air, everyone else so far has been a bunch of crooks. Thanks Buddy for being one of the good ones."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

Driveway aprons typically range between four and seven inches thick, though your town's building codes will likely have specific requirements. Additionally, you may need to add a layer of permeable aggregate in the excavation below your paved apron to ensure proper stormwater drainage.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

The decision to repair or replace your driveway depends on the extent of the damage. If your driveway has a few small cracks, a simple repair will do the trick. If you see larger cracks and potholes, it may be time to consider resurfacing or replacement. Resurfacing is a great option if more than 25% of the surface is damaged, but if the damage is extensive—deep cracks or significant sinking—it’s best to replace the driveway entirely. A new driveway, with proper care, can last decades while patching or resurfacing might only hold up for a few years before needing more attention.
