Small jobs welcome

"I wanted to install a gas tankless water heater at home and consulted with Robert about the requirements of this project. He was very knowledgeable about all the details needed and was very professional answering all my questions. The installation went as originally explained and the quality of the work was excellent. I will recommend Robert to my family and friends with conference."

"Dreland and his crew member was on time. They went over all the products for my approval. If I had any questions or concerns they were able to answer them promptly. The shower turned out beautifully. They cleaned up the area better than expected. They were finished and gone by 5pm. It was a great experience. And I loved the fact that the main part of the installation was done in one day. The glass will be installed shortly. Attached is before and after."

"We are very pleased. The service mam, Lazaro, was able to identify a minor installation error causing our problem. The problem had been missed by a previous service company. The total cost of this service and repair was less than the basic service from our prior company. The air conditioner now cools better/faster set at 79 than it did set at 77."

"Well I wish I would have called them earlier. I called several large plumbing companies and didn't get this service. They wanted to tear my house apart and charge me thousands of dollars. There was no commuincation with these other companies. 1-A  Florida Plumbing Company explained everything and made me feel comfortable. I usually don't give recommendations. However, It was money well spent. Thanks again,

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

No, boilers and water heaters are not interchangeable because they serve different primary functions. Boilers are used for central heating systems, providing hot water or steam to heat your home. In contrast, a water heater's purpose is to supply hot water for daily household use, such as for faucets and showers. A water heater alone cannot supply the warm water or steam needed for a central heating system.

While they are not interchangeable, it is common to have both a boiler and a water heater. In fact, a conventional boiler often works best when a water heater system is already in place. The two systems can be combined to provide both heating and hot water, either by pairing a boiler with an indirect water heater or by installing a premade combination boiler-water heater unit. For home heating, some homeowners may also opt for a furnace instead of a boiler.

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years

A furnace is a big unit where gas, heating oil, or electricity heats the air. The warmed air is then pushed back out through ducts and vents.

A boiler uses electricity, heating oil, or gas to heat water that is pushed into the room through a radiator. This is one of the oldest and most effective ways to heat a house, but radiators can also be unsightly and leave hot and cold spots in the room.

Heat pumps use a refrigerant to move heat from outside into the house and return it to the room through ducts and vents.

Boilers are equipped with multiple safety features to ensure safe operation. These include pressure relief valves to prevent overpressure, temperature high-limit switches to avoid overheating, and flame failure safety devices in gas boilers to cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out unexpectedly. Low water cutoffs prevent operation with insufficient water levels, and pressure gauges help monitor pressure levels. Ventilation and flue systems prevent the buildup of harmful gasses. Boilers often feature error code systems for automatic shutdown during malfunctions and gas leak detection for safety. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure these safety features function correctly.

The absence of heating or hot water, unusual noises like banging or gurgling, and visible water leakage are key signs. Abnormal boiler pressure, flame irregularities (for gas boilers), or pilot light issues may also signal trouble. Frequent cycling, soot or staining, and unusual odors, particularly gas-like smells, should not be ignored. Modern boilers often display error codes or lockout mode upon detecting issues. Uneven heating across radiators and rising energy bills without increased usage can further point to problems. Prompt attention to these signs is essential to prevent further damage and ensure safety.
