"Steve was great!! He accepted my kitchen backsplash job and started the next day. He was on time, worked diligently and had attention to detail! "Eddy & his Brother William were a god send. The fixer upper that we recently purchased was built in 1985. TPA Flooring Company refinished ugly red parquet floors to a beautiful new warm light brown tone. They then installed new floors that match the color perfectly. Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.

Ideally, you should remove tile before installing hardwood floors, but there are good reasons not to. Removing stubborn tile can be a labor-intensive job that adds days to the project. The subfloor beneath the tiles could also be damaged during the process, meaning you’d have to repair the subfloor before installing the new hardwood floor. 

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

If you’re handling your tile removal yourself, seal the room using painter’s tape and heavy-duty contractor bags to prevent dust and shards from escaping. Use a claw hammer or a pry bar and a mallet to get behind the tile and pry it away from the floor or wall. Once your tiles are all removed, sweep everything into contractor bags for disposal, being careful not to overfill them. Make sure you wear a dust mask, safety goggles, and work gloves to keep yourself safe from injury while you work.
