"I am very happy with the results. The installation process was smooth and professional, and the technicians were courteous and knowledgeable. They explained everything to me clearly and answered all my questions. They also cleaned up after themselves and left no mess behind. The new HVAC system is a Carrier model, which is one of the best HVAC companies of 2023 according to U.S. News & World Report."

"These folks are great!  The first couple of years that I had this central AC installed, the main HVAC unit would freeze up and flood the closet and adjacent areas.
After paying another company for the same repair for three years, I finally ditched them and called Weathershield.  They came out, noticed that I had a bad thermostat, replace that, serviced the unit and I haven't had a problem since then.
The folks are super polite, arrive on time and have had my AC purring now for over four years now.  Can't say enough.

"Ozzie is extremely nice, very professional, and puts out the extra 9 yards to give his clientele good service. This would not be complete without mentioning Alberto. He installed a new HVAC unit for me. Working through the heat, humidity, lifting heavy parts both outside and upstairs, the air handler system, I would estimate he had the WHOLE job finished in 7 hours. Seems to me record breaking time, when you consider all the dismantling, carrying, cleaning up of the premises. So Ozzie and Alberto, hats off to you both!! And, I was able to go from 93° upstairs to a most comfortable 78°, perfect sleeping!! Thanks again! Hire them!!!"

"I talked to Nick who was good enough to send a technician out the very same day that I scheduled the service. The technician, Dan, was very prompt, thorough and friendly. He cleaned and sanitized 10+ vents, HVAC system, returns, supply lines, main line, and the dryer vent which was on the roof. A lot of Groupon deals that I looked around for have up-charges for the requirements that I had, particularly since I live in a 3rd floor walk-up in the city. With Lowe's the price that was quoted was the price that I got! I will definitely use their services again!"

"The absolute best HVAC contractor you will find! Honest, Trustworthy, Professional, Accessible, and fair pricing! There is no comparison. I unfortunately have used other companies before finding RCI and there were far pricier and unreliable! I am thrilled to have found RCI and will recommend them to everyone! I have already recommended them to friends who needed a new AC, RCI's pricing was the best of 3 estimates, and my friends were thrilled with their professional service! Look no further, call RCI confidently for all your HVAC needs!!! Thank you Mike and your RCI staff!"

Heating and Air Conditioning FAQs, answered by experts

While all portable AC units will collect moisture as part of their cooling and dehumidifying process, whether and how often you need to drain them depends on what kind of unit you have and the natural humidity levels where you live. For example, if you live in a very dry area and have a self-evaporating unit, you may not need to drain your portable AC very often at all. Some units may automatically drain collected moisture out the window through their exhaust vent.

The cost to add Freon to an AC ranges from $100 to $350. It can increase up to $600 for large AC units requiring much more coolant. The cost also depends on how much refrigerant your unit needs. If only a small amount of Freon leaked out, your cost would be on the lower side. A complete replacement of all the required refrigerant can get expensive.

Choosing between a ductless mini-split and central AC depends on your specific needs. Ductless mini-splits are ideal for targeted cooling, providing zoned comfort and energy efficiency. They are perfect for smaller spaces or homes lacking ductwork. In contrast, central AC offers consistent cooling throughout the entire house but requires ductwork and may be less energy-efficient for smaller spaces.

Consider factors like budget, home size, and cooling preferences to make the right choice. Combining both systems, with a ductless mini-split in specific areas, can also be a viable solution for tailored comfort and overall efficiency.

If you’re shopping around for a rooftop AC unit, you may hear them referred to as “package units.” That’s because rooftop AC systems are all-in-one heating and cooling units that connect directly to your home’s ductwork. If your AC repair pro references a package unit, they are referring to the system on your roof.

No, for two very important reasons. First, it’s illegal to release refrigerant into the air or ground since it can be toxic and cause environmental damage. Technicians typically pump old or extra refrigerant into separate tanks for special disposal. Second, without professional equipment to read refrigerant pressure and levels, plus the AC’s suggested requirements, it’s impossible to know if you’ve removed the right amount of refrigerant. Stay away from a DIY solution here and seek an expert with the right tools.
