"Every aspect of my experience dealing with Certified Heating and Cooling was handled very professionally and I was very pleased with their services. From my initial phone call which was handled by Debbie, to the outstanding job that the tech Daniel did for me to get the A/C up and running again, I couldn't have been more pleased. Besides fixing what was wrong, Daniel also thoroughly inspected and cleaned the entire A/C system, as part of their "Blue Ribbon Maintenance System." There were no "Surprises" and they took care of my problem and got me up and running the same day, like they said they would. All their reviews on Angie's list were very positive, and I see why. I would't hesitate to use them again."

"We contacted At your Service Air Conditioning and Heating because our air conditioner was not working. Their response was quick. Bob came over the same day we called. He found that a part was suspect that was still under warranty. He came back the next day and put the new part in. We were charged a service charge, labor and a manufactures warranty Fee. This is an honest company. I would have put my review in quicker but had to wait on my daughter to help me. My husband and I highly recommend At Your Service Air Conditioning and Heating."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

It depends on the type of AC unit and the extent of the mold growth. For example, if you have a small amount of mold in your central air conditioner, it’s worth cleaning it to protect your HVAC system and your health. In situations like these, you can often remove the mold yourself in a couple of hours. On the other hand, if you have a portable AC unit with a severe mold problem, it makes more sense to buy a new one. On average, replacing a portable AC unit costs $100 to $500.

Most HVAC companies charge a flat service call fee of between $75 and $150, which includes traveling to your home and inspecting your system to find the underlying problem. Keep in mind that these prices only include diagnostics and the actual repairs will usually be billed separately. If you’re calling for routine service, the service call will be included in your inspection and tune-up, with the total sitting around $150. Your prices could be a little higher if you have a very large home with multiple condensers and air handlers, as inspections and servicing take longer.

AC capacitors have a wide lifespan, ranging from five to 20 years, with an average of about 10 years. Many capacitors will last for the entire life of the air conditioning unit, and most homeowners only need to replace one once. A capacitor should only be replaced if an HVAC professional diagnoses a problem with it. Premature failure can be caused by overheating, power surges, or short circuits. You can help extend the life of your AC capacitor by scheduling regular AC maintenance each year.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.

To lower humidity quickly, run a dehumidifier or your home's air conditioner or turn on exhaust fans to extract moisture. These methods can quickly and effectively bring your home's humidity levels to a comfortable condition. However, you should consistently practice humidity-reducing tasks to maintain proper indoor humidity levels.
