"Steve was quick to contact me and was able to get ready for the job after some pictures and a phone conversation. He and his team arrived at my house on time prepared for the job. They were very considerate of my floors (which they kept clean) and didn't waste any time. They installed a new electrical outlet outside for my hot tub with extra space for my outdoor tv projector. I would recommend Steve to figure it out and get the job done efficiently with a reasonable price!!"

"I recently experienced excellent customer service and wanted to commend the professionalism and dedication of the individuals involved. Initially, a Galloway electrician was scheduled to address an issue at my home. However, after nearly two hours, he informed me that he had another appointment and left without completing the job. In contrast, the team from B & F Electric went above and beyond to ensure the problem was fixed. They stayed until the job was done, demonstrating exceptional commitment and expertise. Their efforts not only resolved the issue but also showcased their dedication to customer satisfaction. Thank you, B & F Electric, for your outstanding service. Your professionalism and thoroughness are greatly appreciated!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When comparing Newark electricians, be wary of those who skip permits, lack proof of insurance, or hesitate to provide references from local clients. Watch for vague quotes that don’t separate labor and materials, unusually low bids, or requests for full payment upfront. Avoid contractors who rush you to sign, don’t inspect your system first, or suggest ignoring code requirements. Choose professionals who clearly outline their process and understand Newark’s unique electrical needs.

Helpful?

Newark homeowners should factor in the age and layout of their property, especially in areas like College Park or Devon, where older wiring is common. Historic district homes may require extra approvals. Newark’s humid summers and frequent storms make surge protection and weatherproofing essential. If your property shares utility easements or is near student housing, anticipate possible access restrictions or additional safety requirements during the project.

Helpful?

Your Newark home is likely ready for electrical upgrades if it was built before 1960, has outdated knob-and-tube wiring, or uses a fuse box instead of breakers. Signs like flickering lights, frequent tripped breakers, or two-prong outlets indicate aging systems. If you’re adding high-demand appliances, need more GFCI outlets, or want to support home automation, it’s a great time to consider an electrical update.

Helpful?

Before starting electrical work in Newark, review your project’s scope to determine if it involves panel upgrades, new circuits, or exterior wiring, as these usually require permits and inspections. Plan ahead for permit approval, which can take several days. If your project affects the service entrance, coordinate with the local utility. Always mark underground lines before digging and confirm your plans meet Newark’s current electrical code.

Helpful?

For a smooth electrical project in Newark, select a contractor with proven experience in local neighborhoods and knowledge of Newark’s older housing stock. Obtain at least three detailed quotes and check contractor availability around university move-in periods to avoid scheduling conflicts. Ensure clear access to electrical panels and plan for parking in tight areas. Notify your utility provider in advance if your project requires a temporary power shutdown.
