"Zach did an excellent job. He installed 4 ceiling fans, outlets, dimmers. He found 2 light switches that were bad and replaced those. He did all this work in just a few hours. Very thorough and honest. Will hire again without a doubt."

Small jobs welcome

"John and Carl from Triple J Electric arrived on time and got right to it upon their arrival. They were very professional and thorough in finding the problem with no power to a handful of outlets. They were able to find the issue and corrected it quickly. They had time to install a light on a ceiling fan too! i would highly recommend them and I will be using them in the future for any electrical needs I may have. THANK YOU, MEN! Regards, Paul P."

Customers say: True professional

"I was in need of a new installation for a ceiling fan. After reading the reviews, I decide to hire Crest Electric. Dale called to discuss my needs and quickly placed me on his scheduled. Dale was very professional and has excellent customer service. Dale provided me an ETA and was running a little late. He called me to inform me that he would be arriving a little late. I was very impress that he took my time into consideration. When he arrived, I had A TON of questions. He was very patient with me and answered all my questions with a smile. His work was very proficient. He even cleaned up afterwards. I am very happy with my new ceiling fan. I would highly recommend Dale for all your electrical needs."

"Great. Klaus was a professional from start to finish. He surveyed our needs and came up with a reasonable estimate within a day after we talked. He was on time for the initial contact and then when he started two days later. The fan installation was a breeze and the price was more than reasonable. I will hire him in the future and recommend him highly. It was a pleasure working with him, He was responsive to all of our needs and questions."

"The outlet blew from space heater. Circuit breaker bad as well. Needed repair fast because Circuit powers phone. Mike responded and came the next day. If their is and example of fair price and quantity work, mike is that example. Thank you and his partner for making my mother's house safe again. Note, he also so other problems in breaker box which he took the time to square away as well. SAFTY! Well appreciated. Fix outlets as well. Will use them again. Highly recommended. Juge for yourself. Thanks again Mike and his partner. Can't say it enough."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

Since the cost of installing a ceiling fan is $250 for most homeowners, it might be beneficial to replace your existing fan if you are experiencing a significant repair issue, like a broken motor. However, for less expensive repairs, like a fan blade replacement, you’ll likely spend less on the repair than a complete fan replacement. Of course, if you’re looking for an upgrade or a new style fan, replacing it altogether is always an option.

In short, no. You can use the square footage range chart in this article to determine the right size ceiling fan for both indoor and outdoor spaces. However, weather elements can damage types of ceiling fans that aren't designed for outdoor use, so your ceiling fan should be weather-resistant if you plan to install it outside.
