"George listens to the customer, makes suggestions if necessary and proceeds with a contract. Said contract has a price range that he never exceeded depending on whether or not unforeseen issues occur. George renovated two bathrooms, installed laminate flooring on my bathrooms and master bedroom. He is efficient, neat and never leaves a project unless it is perfect. George will be called upon for all my future projects."

"I recently purchased a home that have Harvey classic windows. Several of the windows had catches that were no longer attached which prevented us from opening them. Although the windows were NOT purchased and installed by the Highland Window Company , I spoke to Marc and he offered to come out and look at them. Marc, again fixed all the issues and also provided guidance on how to resolve should the catches detach again. He did not charge for the service he provided or the time it took even though I attempted to pay, he refused. It is remarkable and rare that a company who did not sell the product or install it, would agree to take the time to look at the issue, most will not even speak with you if they did not install the window. If we ever need to replace our Harvey windows, we will definitely, call Marc and utilize the Highland window company."

"I was very impressed with David's responsiveness and every member of his crew was a pleasure. They completely removed the kitchen floor (and several layers of subfloor) in my 100+ year-old home, made repairs to floor joists and installed new flooring that looks beautiful. It was an evolving project and I appreciated the team's flexibility and speed with which they completed the project."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

The steps to replace a retractable screen can vary, but these are the general steps: First, remove the screen cover to expose the screen mechanism and remove the clip that holds the screen in place. Next, depress the end of the screen mechanism so it releases from the door frame. Take your new screen and fit one end into the frame. You may need to rotate the mechanism to engage the spring before inserting the other end into the frame. Finally, pull the screen down the length of the door’s opening and lock it in place with the clip.

The cost ultimately depends on size, but roughly, the most popular screen materials will set you back anywhere from around $0.25 to over $25 per square foot. Fiberglass and aluminum are usually less expensive at around $0.25 to $0.70 per square foot. Solar screens cost about $7.50 to $15 per square foot, while security screens range from around $10 to $25 per square foot.

The cost of a window repair varies significantly depending on which part is damaged. Here is a breakdown of common repairs and their estimated costs:

  • Broken seal or fogginess between panes: $70–$245

  • Cracked pane: $40–$100

  • Broken glass: $200–$2,000

  • Sash, seal, or track repair: $200–$600

  • Latch or hardware issues: $75–$200

  • Broken window frame: $175–$1,000

  • Window screen replacement: $140–$480

Some local utilities or state programs offer rebates or tax incentives for energy-efficient upgrades, including solar screens. Make sure to check with your local energy provider or government agency to see if you qualify for any cost-saving programs. Federal tax credits may also be available for qualifying window and exterior home upgrades.
