"An impressive company. Peter really pulled thru for us in a time constrained situation. This is a very honest company. In the process of selling our house, we thought we needed a new electrical panel. Peter told us "no". He could correct the panel and then connect the new electric water heater. His men Sergi and David worked diligently until they were finished. Regional inspection passed like a breeze. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat. They are honest, professional, polite, experienced electricians, and the price was very fair for the work performed."

"Adam was very prompt and professional. We had some electrical outlets and lighting fixtures that were wired incorrectly causing faults... and he diagnosed and fixed them very quickly. Adam also was able to fix the electrical connections on our gas fireplaces that were not working. Very happy with the service and recommend AJC Electric highly for any electrical needs!"

"Jesse reviewed the circuit breaker issue that I was having. He fully understood the problem and let me know what the options were. He advised me that it was something that I could do myself, but I chose to have him do it, as he offered a very reasonable price and I felt I'd rather have a professional do the job. He was most pleasant to work with. I will keep his info in case I have any other electrical problems in the future. I recommend Persistence Electric to anyone having electrical problems."

"I hired Adam to install a light fixture to go over my pool table. I should mention that Adam is a Master Electrician. He does EXCELLENT work at a very reasonable price!!! I used to use bigger contractors to do all my electrical work [usually an apprentice was sent out]. Adam did a fantastic job. I will use only Adam for all my electrical work from now on. He is very professional and honest. I would highly recommend him to anyone who asks me. The fact that Adam is a Master Electrician and does the work made me feel very comfortable that the job would be done right. He is a 10 out of 10 in my opinion!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

A 3-prong, 15-amp, 120-volt outlet is standard in the U.S. These have two vertical slots and a U-shaped grounding hole, which suits most home electronics, from televisions to microwaves. Three-pronged outlets are safer than 2-pronged ones, as the third wire, known as the grounding wire, helps prevent shocks and electrical fires.

Outlets do wear out, usually within 15-25 years, but they can fail even sooner than that —sometimes in a matter of years. If your plugs always slide out after you put them in, this is a sign your outlets need to be replaced. Additionally, if your outlets are damaged, cracked, discolored, or regularly tripping the circuit breaker, they may be at the end of their life.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.

Outdoor outlets should be at least 15-amp, but preferably 20-amp. The exact rating will depend on the electrical load of the devices that will be plugged into the outlet and the capacity of the circuit. It's important not to overload the circuit, which can cause safety hazards such as tripped breakers or electrical fires. In general, a circuit rated for at least 20 amps is recommended for outdoor outlets, while each outlet should be rated for at least 15 amps.
