"I finally contacted Peter from 5280 SealCoating through Angie's List's messaging. He responded to me almost immediately, and was over to give me an estimate exactly when he said he would be here. As we were analyzing the current asphalt, he pointed out to me why it was in such bad shape (the previous installation was too thin, without a good road base underneath). The initial estimate was right in the price range I was shooting for, but I was worried about drainage and some issues, and we decided to do the job right. With the leveling, a thicker coat of asphalt, adding the road base, and adjusting the grading for drainage, the price pushed up a bit beyond what I was thinking, but it was also good to do it right instead of having to redo it in a few years. The crew showed up exactly as scheduled, and Peter was on site the entire time, making sure it was being done as we had discussed. I appreciated his knowledge, and how he conveyed to me the differences between a cheap job and a quality job, and his very thorough explanation of the maintenance procedures for the future. One other note about the service, I was also getting my roof replaced the same day as the asphalt installation, because of weather-related schedules being shuffled. (Note the gutters being replaced in the attached photo). The asphalt crew and roofing crew worked together perfectly to make sure neither was stepping on the other's toes. That was a great example of how 5280 SealCoating is focused on customer service. I look forward to having them do the seal coating on the driveway in the spring, and using them for further maintenance in the future! Finally, I found a company that didn't give me the runaround!"

"I would have given them a 5 star rating but I had a few spots get messed up on my drive way where you can tell it was thinner. When I asked about them fixing it he said he didn’t do small jobs. I asked for Johnny to come out and look at it he said he would. It’s been weeks now and he won’t he hasn’t came out like promised. Johnny won’t even answer my phone calls. I’m very disappointed that this is how they are treating a customer. It shouldn’t matter if it’s a big job or a little one. If you can tell in the picture that was sent that the asphalt was thinner in a spot you should guarantee your work and come fit it. I even said if I have to pay I will since I did have workers out to take out a tree and their truck was what caused damage. But Johnny even agreed that sometimes the machine can give out a thinner layer like what was caused in this situation so why won’t he come fix it? So I would go else where to get your asphalt done. My neighbor got his done as well so I’m including the whole price since since it’s all tied together bc our driveways join together."

"I decided not to do this project based on recommendation from company who originally paved my driveway. They said my driveway still looked good and did not need seal coat or overlay."

"My wife and I were very satisfied with the planning and execution of this project with Domian.  They worked with us at every step in the process, and we were 'in the loop' the whole time.  They did exactly what they said they would do, and because weather is a large determining factor in concrete work, they were very good about making certain we knew when various parts of the project would be done/completed.  The people who were the 'crew' were professional in every way, and all were communicative and knowledgeable.
Our project was what I would consider a 'good-sized' project, which included a 'tightly bounded driveway' and a medium-sized parking pad toward the rear of the house.  The driveway was not wide enough to allow the cement truck on our property and Domian handled the transfer of the concrete with ease.  My concerns included possible damage to the house and garage structure during the demolition and removal of the original concrete as some of the work was being done in relatively small spaces.  At the end of the project, no damage was done.
We had a 'special problem' concerning some very 'site-specific' concrete step requirements, and after the completion of them, we were not satisfied.  Kevin -the head of the project- agreed and the steps were broken up, removed, the form re-built, and re-poured, completely to our -and their- satisfaction.  Their attention to detail was matched by their attention to customer satisfaction.
We worried a bit about the project from the time we signed the contract to the time they broke up and hauled off our old concrete, just because I had never participated in such a large concrete project before, but it was wasted worry!  Domian was a joy to work with, and we would hire them again in a nano-second for our next concrete job!  We cannot recommend them highly enough!!

"Your Denver Metro Construction, (Lucy Hastings) was highly recommended to me by a colleague in the real estate industry. When I contacted Lucy about our concrete job, she responded very quickly and provided me with photos of recent work along with a list of references to contact. That really impressed me, as I've never worked with a contractor who provided that information upfront.

She and I corresponded for about a week discussing the scope of work, and I provided photos and some basic measurements for her to give me a and quot;ballparkand quot; figure for the cost of the job. Once I decided to hire her, she came to the house to see the job in person, take measurements and discuss some of the design elements of the patio and front stoop. Once we finalized our contract, her foreman got started on the work right away, he and his crew had the work done within one week and it turned out very well. As with any project there were a few minor bumps and small delays, but they worked through it, communicated very well and did a fantastic job. I would definitely hire Your Denver Metro Construction again!

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

This creates a risk for your driveway to fail after asphalt curing because it doesn't have a lasting bond with the surface. In order to get asphalt to perform as intended, it's necessary to prepare the dirt surface correctly first. The loose soil base under the new driveway must be compacted until it is stable enough to support the weight of the asphalt.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

Asphalt is not a type of concrete. While both are a common type of pavement, asphalt is composed of aggregates (like sand and gravel) and bitumen; concrete is a mixture of cement, aggregates, and water. Here are some of the key differences between asphalt and concrete driveways.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.
