Following their quote visit, I called within the hour of their leaving and said we wanted to get on the schedule and book the job. Larry said he'd call me back. Days past and I hadn't heard anything. I finally called and they said they would try to work us in and gave me a tentative date. That date came and went and I called another time from work and asked when they were planning as we had landscaping that was being planned but would be worked around their project. They told me they planned on coming by that day but it was raining. I told them no one was home and so they would not be able to begin without direction. I got the condescending "Well isn't your wife even home?" sexist response to which I had to inform them No and that we both work for a living.
There was another call exchange and I adjusted my work schedule between when they finally did show up. The guys who arrived were nice enough (dismissing the fact that they both smoked and drank their [non alcoholic thankfully!] beverages, but left their butts and trash on our property), however, they had no idea what it was that they were supposed to do for us. I showed them what the project was and they began work...for about two hours. Then they told me they had to go help on another job and they would "probably" be back Friday or Monday....come Tuesday and no sight of them I finally called to see what was up. No word back. They just finally showed up and started working when no one was home for a little while longer, and finished framing in the job, but then they vanished. No word or return call for nearly another week. Finally after saying in a message that I had landscapers coming the next weekend and they needed to get their stuff done and out of the way, they showed up and poured the concrete, walked through our garden to pick up their materials, no instructions on how long to stay off of it, and were gone.
Oh I did get a follow up call to find out when they could pick up their payment. That seemed to be important enough to warrant a call. I normally love supporting local businesses but I expect the common courtesy of communication and a scratch of customer service. Very disappointed in their follow thru. So far, the work seems like it's holding up (only a few weeks later), but nothing I couldn't get from someone else.
He said the crews could complete the work the following week. All went well and the new concrete looks great.
Since that time, he has promised three more times that he would repair the driveway, but it never happened. He told me at least three more times that he would repair the driveway if I made a comment to the BBB that the situation was resolved. I did so, and he continued to ignore the repairs. (He even painted green arrows on the concrete so his workmen would know which areas to replace.)
Now he is saying that the resolve comments were not enough and that he will repair my driveway if I completely remove my BBB complaint (the BBB does not do that in less than three years), which was not what he requested for the first two years we have been "doing battle."
He has now (as of 6-4-2015) referred to me as a cheat, a liar, and in need of psychological counseling because HE will not follow through with his promises, having changed his mind about the necessary repairs several times. His last "promise" was one of two things:1), That I pay for the concrete repairs and he would pay for the labor of doing so, or 2), I could wait for two years and hope that the BBB complaint had been taken off its web site. Neither choice is anywhere near acceptable. I have given up my intent for repairs and will instead rely on my postings on the BBB web site and Angie's list - and anywhere else I can let the public know of my opinions of his methods of doing business and his prevailing prevarications.
The project was begun approximately two weeks after the contract was signed. The crew had, I believe, only one English speaker and Mr. Lohmann was never to be seen. The crew, for the most part, seemed to know what they were doing and we, obviously had no expertise in the pouring of concrete. In the course of the demolition of the old drive way however, the crew broke part of the sandstore rock which was a portion of the stairs in our entryway.
We were told this would be repaired. Upon completion, the driveway seemed to have an odd discoloration in parts, we were told that we would have to wait for it to dry. The attitude was that we were a pain and stupid. Our contact was Mr. Lohmann's wife. They then sealed the driveway without power washing it which resulted in dirt in the seal which further added to the discoloration. A large crack by the entry way then developed as well as hairline cracks. We were told that the things would be repaired. The sandstone was repaired with an off colored grout which required us to hire someone else to repair it. On 7/6/13 we finally talked to Mr. Lohmann who promised correction to the rest of the driveway. We have heard nothing further and we are tired of chasing the company. We will the driveway repaired and pursue other remedies. I cannot recomend this company.
"We do not warranty hairline cracking."
"Concrete is major construction. Please understand the grass/ lawn damage was imminent."
"Please note we are a small company (two people in the office) and peak season is April- December. I have not heard from this customer once. We have a valid e-mail address and return calls as fast as possible."
