"Said and his team were professional, knowledgeable, respectful and efficient. They were good for their word on what they estimated on cost, the actual work and timeliness. They continued to verify that I was pleased with the project. I love my patio and would definitely recommend them!"

"Our system needed updating with new heads and new lines. David and his crew did a fantastic job in 1 day to get all our needs taken care of. My flowers beds now have sprinklers along with the lawn. They were polite and professional. They did a great clean up job too!"

"Jesus is a hard working family man. Always on time and very detailed. He remolded my front porch, stamped w/ Italian style slate. Removed my old driveway & poured new driveway. The cleanup was great. My neighbors down the street had there driveway and patio also redone by Jesus. High quality and the price is right. A+"

"We hired Black Widow Concrete to demolish and remove a retaining wall and old driveway and pave a new driveway. We were very happy with the entire process. Ricardo and his team were very easy to work with. We had some unique timeline constraints for the project, which Ricardo was very helpful in accommodating. Ricardo was very responsive to all communication, returning phone or text messages within a day, if not sooner. The team was experienced, professional and clearly took pride in their work. We would definitely hire them again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Romiro, is extremely dedicated to detail. He doesnâ  t just send his men out to the job site. He is there working with his men to insure the job is done the way he wants it. He replaced my driveway, some sidewalk, and put 4 of my roof drains underground. He is extremely easy to work with. He does concrete work the way it should be done not the way builders do it when your home is being built. He came highly recommended to me by a friend who has used him on at least 3 other projects for him."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt is not a type of concrete. While both are a common type of pavement, asphalt is composed of aggregates (like sand and gravel) and bitumen; concrete is a mixture of cement, aggregates, and water. Here are some of the key differences between asphalt and concrete driveways.

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?

Your city or county will have guidelines about the minimum and maximum width and length of private roads. The average private road is 12 feet wide, and length, of course, depends on your property. Requirements also depend on the amount of traffic and types of vehicles your road experiences. Check with local ordinances before planning a road on your property.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

You should not attempt to install your own driveway. Whether working with asphalt or pavement, this is a complicated project that requires special equipment. Talk to some nearby asphalt or paving professionals and discuss your particular needs—it’s a good idea to get a few quotes and look at the company’s past work.
