Small jobs welcome

"I am so happy to say I have found a plumber I can trust to do good work for a fair price and who is responsive. They were very responsive to scheduling, arrived promptly, and were very friendly. They were very professional in their appearance and conduct. They got the job done quickly and explained everything in detail. I highly recommend them for anything leaks to pipes to plumbing! They are now my go to plumber!"

"Jay at Compass Plumbing was able to find and seal a leak that two previous plumbers had not been able to resolve. Phenomenal work, and not afraid to work at a rental."

"Gary, the master plumber who came to our home and gave us an estimate and did the repair work was personable, friendly, professional, and very thorough. He was the main reason we went with Rooter Guy. They were the most expensive of the quotes we received ( we had 4 estimates). The solutions Gary provided were the least intrusive to our plumbing disaster. The work they completed is wonderful and we feel very confident the repair will last for a very long time! The day of the repair job they communicated well and cleaned up everything perfectly. I could not be happier with the work - just wished the job was a little less pricey. We have kept Gary's card and will call again for major plumbing jobs in the future."

"Took twice as long and cost three times as much as we had originally thought but the work appears to have been done well and not being a plumber I really had no logical basis for my estimates."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

While you can put Drano in a sink with standing water, most plumbers don’t recommend doing so. It usually doesn’t help to clear the clog, and you’ll end up with a sink full of standing water plus a toxic chemical—which is very unpleasant to deal with and best handled by a professional.

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.

No, you can’t drain your sump pump into your home’s sewer system. In fact, it’s against the law in many places because dumping extra water into a municipal water system can disrupt or overwhelm the treatment process. And for similar reasons, you shouldn’t discharge a sump pump into your septic system, either.

Yes, the thawing process is often the reason frozen pipes burst in the first place. Though it may seem like the freezing itself causes a pipe to burst, it's actually the pressure that builds inside the pipes in your home that really contributes to the pipe bursting. As the ice melts, more pressure builds in the pipes. That pressure increases further if some of the water thaws only to refreeze.

If you live in a place with cold weather, you can winterize your outdoor spigot whenever you finish using your hose for the year. Start by disconnecting and draining your hose, then store it until springtime. Next, close your water shut-off valve and open the bleeder cap, releasing any water inside, and open the outdoor faucet to get rid of any excess water in the fixture. Finally, put an outdoor faucet cover over your spigot until the weather warms up again.
