"South Valley Drywall was fantastic. They performed tape & texture job for my finished basement. 1200 sq.ft. job. They were extremely professional, starting with the estimator Garrett Vapp. He spent 30 minutes with us giving us advice and a thorough emailed written quote.Bill the job supervisor answered all of my questions and had his crewwas there on time every day. They did exactly what he said they were going to do. They actually fixed some things that we messed up hanging drywall. The job was finished in time and without change orders. I would highly recommend South Valley, and oh, by the way did I mentionj they were the low bid!"

Small jobs welcome

"I had a fantastic experience with this company. The owners provided excellent customer service in a timely way during the drywall installation for the renovation of my home. They did a great job scraping the ceiling of popcorn and fixing places in the drywall throughout my house. They also installed drywall in my entire garage. It looks great! I would highly recommend this company!"

Small jobs welcome

"I was looking for someone to help me convert an open space under my stairs into a more usable storage space/closet. Luis and his whole crew (Eduardo, Rodolpho, and Edgar) were amazing about helping me with this project from start to finish! They were polite, prompt, and did a great job in framing out, drywalling, and finishing this space in a way that the new area blends seamlessly with the existing. Luis was very committed to making sure my job was completed to my satisfaction, which it was. And I'm picky! They were also great about leaving my house as clean (or cleaner?) as when they arrived. I will use Luis and his crew for any future projects they're willing to take on!"

"Prompt. Said what he would do. Cleaned up afterward. Gave an idea of what the drywall cure time would be for painting afterward. Would use them again."

"The team did an amazing job removing popcorn ceiling, hanging some new drywall with acoustic barrier and painting the whole house in a week and a half! Mark had great communication throughout and helped make the house move in ready in our short timeline."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

New plaster must be fully dry and cured before painting. The drying time for plaster ranges from 1 to 4 hours, but the curing process can take more than five days, depending on various factors, including humidity levels, temperature, the amount of plaster used, and airflow in the area. You should always apply primer before painting plaster.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

It’s less costly to drywall a fireplace than shiplapping it since material costs are higher for shiplap. However, if you’re DIYing the project, shiplap is less expensive since you won’t have to pay for labor. With drywall, getting a smooth finish is difficult unless you’re a pro. Shiplap is ideal for an accent wall or unique space, such as around a fireplace, since it adds texture and gives off a cozy vibe.

Yes, any parts of drywall that are wet or overly moist will need to be replaced. Drywall is intended to be dry (it’s in the name, after all.), as excess moisture can lead to mold and mildew and eventually corrode your home’s foundational building pieces. Do regular inspections in your home to make sure all your plumbing is intact and in good condition—this will go a long way toward preventing leaks.
