"I called Eric from two brothers who install gutters, Eric was a professional, he showed up when he said he would, his estimate was very comparable to all other vendors, even though I had to postpone the job, I was throughly impressed with his honesty, punctuality and professionalism. I would definitely recommend Eric and his company."

"Before I replaced my gutter, I’ve been searching around the company that I feel comfortable to work with, finally I choose A-1 GUTTER GUYS to do the work, the price is reasonable & most of all ANTHONY, the owner is very honest and I feel he never wants to take advantage of the job, he told me the truth whether things should be or shouldn’t be done Anthony installed a new gutter plus a gutter guard of my back yard and he and his crews did an outstanding & excellent job with fairly price! I highly recommend this company and for sure i will be contacting them again in the near future to do the other part of my house"

"Because I needed only a repair after a tree limb damaged the roof, many roofers either would not bid or I would have to wait for any repair. Universal did the repairs over several days by sending over crews after they had finished a prior job. Worked out well."

"Los Gatos Roofing spent a week replacing our 40-year-old cement tile roof with a new cement tile roof. They worked with our Solar contractors to install mounts for 24 solar panels, and came back after solar installation to replace/repair the couple dozen tiles that were broken in the process. They replaced many of our gutters and downspouts, and repaired roof overhang panels in a number a places. They installed 7/16" radiant barrier sheathing on the older 1st story part (2800 sq ft).
We started looking in November, and worked with Jon Stirm at LGR who supplied several different color tiles to consider. We signed the contract in February, and then, once we had a contract with our solar company (Clean Solar) and solar design signed off by the city, Los Gatos Roofing came in (Porfirio and crew) and did the job in a single week. The workmanship is excellent, they coordinated well with our solar installer, and we recommend the company and would certainly hire them again though we anticipate this new roof will outlast us ;-)

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

If your gutters get overwhelmed every time it rains, adding an extra downspout is a solution. First, you'll need to decide where to add the downspout. If your current setup only has a single downspout, one option is to place a new one at the opposite end of the gutter. If you already have a downspout at each end, adding a third one in the middle can help to lighten the load.

You can hire a professional to add a downspout yourself by cutting into the existing gutter and attaching the necessary parts, such as an outlet and brackets.

In most cases, it makes more sense to repair leaking or damaged gutters than it will to replace them. You’ll spend an average of $400 to repair your gutters, while full replacement will cost around $2,000 or more, depending on the gutter material and style and the size of your home. If your gutters are nearing the end of their lifespan—usually around 20 years for aluminum or vinyl gutters or up to 50 years for copper or steel—then it might make sense to replace them, as it could cost you less in the long run.

It’s technically possible to remove some soffit material without removing your gutters, but it’s usually a good idea to remove gutters, fascia, and soffit and then reinstall them in the opposite order. Replacing soffits without removing gutters is likely to leave you with a less professional and clean appearance, and you’re more likely to do damage to your gutters and fascia boards in the process.

The most common problem with gutters is clogging from debris like leaves, blossoms, and seeds from surrounding trees. This debris can block downspouts, leading to improper drainage and water overflow.

Other common issues include:

  • Leaks and holes, which can often be repaired with gutter sealant or caulk.

  • Rust, sagging, or detachment from the roofline.

  • Damage from strong storms.

  • Improperly pitched gutters that don't drain correctly.

Regular cleaning in the spring and fall is the best way to prevent most of these problems. You may need to clean them more often during periods of heavy leaf fall.

Yes. Excessive pitch in gutters can cause water to flow too rapidly, leading to a decrease in the gutter's water-holding capacity; consequently, during heavy rainstorms, water may awkwardly splash outside the gutters. Ideally, you should aim for a quarter-inch of gutter slope for every 10 feet of gutter run. However, it's important to note that this guideline may vary depending on your home's structure and the type of gutters being installed.
