"Based upon my previous very positive experience with Semper Solaris and Mr. David Kaul when they added a Tesla battery to my solar package, I asked David for an appraisal of my thirty plus year old roof. After a detailed inspection, with pictures, we committed to a “lift and lay” using my original concrete tiles. The project included removal and replacement of twenty solar panels. The assigned crew, led by project manager Christian Jimenez, arrived early on the scheduled date, quietly parked all their vehicles so as not to inconvenience neighbors and got immediately to work! As Christian explained the plan, each team member initiated action as needed– no shouting, no confusion, no loud radios – just well -coordinated work! During breaks, there was no noise, food wrappers, etc. Christian returned periodically to ensure steady, safe progress and to update me. The roofing portion was completed a day early with GREAT results. The post-job cleanup was immaculate! David and Christian coordinated with the Solar department to complete the re-installation of our panels. The Solar team also arrived early, parked quietly, and mirrored the roofing team – friendly, professional, self-directed, and super-efficient /effective. They also finished early, gave me a complete post-job debrief and left a totally clean jobsite with a fully up and running solar system. My experience with David Kaul, Christian Jimenez, and all the Semper Solaris team has been perfect!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, thatched roofs are legal in most areas in the U.S., but you should always check your local building codes to ensure there are no restrictions in your particular area before installing one. Even where they are legal, you’ll usually need to apply fireproofing to the roof to keep it up to code. Keep in mind that a new roof might not increase home value as much if you choose a thatched roof, as they aren’t common in the U.S. and might not be as desirable to many home buyers.

Roof sheathing can buckle from moisture damage, too much weight from roofing materials, or too much space in between rafters without thicker sheathing to compensate for the added distance. Bucking roof sheathing is a serious problem that can lead to a collapsed roof, so have a qualified roofer near you come to identify the problem as soon as possible.

No, you do not need gable vents if you have a ridge vent. In fact, gable vents would actually interrupt the process that ridge vents are set to conduct. You would be better off to decide between the two depending on your home’s needs.

Roofers can install roof vents. Updating, upgrading, or simply replacing your roof's existing vents is common when installing a new roof. If you're looking to upgrade your ventilation system with a powered version, a local HVAC professional can also help with the task. If adding roof vents to your home is necessary while installing an addition or during other renovation work, your contractor will handle or hire out the venting work.

Walking on an asbestos roof can pose a risk. Asbestos roofing materials can become brittle over time, increasing the chances of them breaking or releasing fibers when stepped on. Additionally, walking on an asbestos roof without proper precautions can cause further damage to the material. If possible, avoid touching an asbestos roof in any way and consult with a professional about removing and replacing the roof.
