"Sparky?s Electric did an excellent job installing my EV charger. They were professional, knowledgeable, and showed up when they said they would. The installation was clean, everything was explained clearly, and they made sure everything was working properly before leaving. Pricing was fair and the quality of work was top notch. "We hired proper power electric to update lighting and switches in our home. Forest and foster showed up on time. They were professional and in sync with each other. We added recessed lighting, fan ,and outdoor lights to our new home. Forest made suggestion to add another switch down the hallway to make it easier to turn off lights when going to the room. Both were knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. They even helped my neighbor with their solar panel system. We had a great experience and will definitely hire again."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The National Fire Protection Association reports that almost half of reported electrical fires are caused by electrical distribution and lighting equipment. The main culprit behind these fires is often frayed, worn, or faulty wiring, particularly in closed-off and concealed areas like attics, where fires can start and burn undetected for long periods.

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.

Electrical fixes are best handled by a licensed electrician, but it’s possible to release a wire connection on your own. Be sure to always turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker before beginning your project to avoid electric shock. Carefully insert the tip of a flat screwdriver into the rectangular hole beneath the wire. Hold the outlet in the palm of your other hand. Pull out the wire as you apply pressure with the screwdriver.

If a 240V appliance is connected to a 120V outlet, the lower voltage will cause that appliance to receive insufficient power. This may result in reduced performance, malfunctions, or even damage to the appliance's components. Depending on the size of your electrical circuit, you’ll likely need to reset a tripped circuit breaker at the very least.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
