"Jerry Gasper is easy to work with. He was extremely flexible while I planned the project. When I was finally ready it only took a couple of weeks to schedule the work. The crew showed up before the scheduled time and started to work immediately. They were very professional. It was a pleasant experience having them on the job. A great plus was that they cleaned up the area after finishing the work. I will consider Gasper Electric for any future work."

"Outstanding experience with Fox Electric! Toby was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain all of my options for a main panel upgrade. He provided several solutions at different price points, allowing me to choose what worked best for my needs and budget. The quality of work was excellent, communication was great, and the entire process was smooth from start to finish. It's clear that Toby takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about his customers. "The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The copper wire used in knob and tube wiring systems can last up to 100 years. However, it’s considered a dangerous and outdated wiring method because the cloth, fabric, or rubber insulation sheathing can become brittle and fall apart. Knob and tube wiring systems should be inspected if you’re considering buying a home with this type of wiring, or if you have problems with frequently tripping breakers, a sign that you may need to replace them.

A 60W LED bulb is likely labeled as “60W replacement” on the package—that’s because it provides about the same light output as a 60W incandescent bulb. In reality, it likely uses less energy—usually 15 watts or less. If that’s the case, then it’s perfectly fine to put a 60W LED bulb in a 40W socket. Your best bet is to read the package carefully. It will tell you the LED bulb’s actual wattage, and as long as it’s lower than the fixture, the bulb will be safe to use.

Yes, you can plug an extension cord or an outlet extender into a GFCI outlet. The GFCI outlet will still be able to protect your system in the same way.

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.

Though they may seem similar at a quick glance, outdoor electrical outlets are different from indoor electrical outlets in that they have extra safety precautions to prevent electrical hazards. These include GFCIs, which some indoor outlets have, and a watertight cover that allows you to use electricity from the outlet even on a rainy day.
