"Alfonso called me right away. I shared photos with him and he gave me a call back with a plan to fix it and even sent photos and instructions on how I could do it myself since he lives a good distance away from where the pump/well was located. He was very knowledgeable and educated me on my pump system and most importantly offered to be free over the phone if I ever needed help during the fix or if something else comes up. I’ll be using the tips and parts Alfonso recommended me to use this weekend. Thank you Alfonso!"

"Carmelo did an excellent job on installing a gas fitting for my new dryer. He installed the fittings and got my dryer hooked up. He went above and beyond and also helped me light my pilot light on my water heater! He explained what he would do, performed the work and cleaned up after himself! Great job Carmelo!"

"Feliciano put in a new water line for the ice maker. He arrived within the timeframe I was told, gave me a quote, came back a few days later and installed it. He did a great job and cleaned up afterwards, was professional and courteous. I will be recommending Discount Plumbing to everyone I know."

"JPC team did an excellent, professional job on our storm water sump pumps related project. (Two sump pumps were working; they did not need repairs.) 1) Cut and replaced two broken pipes; installed new valves 2) New float sensors installed and set to auto-start the sump pumps 3) long outflow pine, connecting to city's water drainage system, was cleaned using long snake and high pressure water pump combination. 4) successful final test with water filled in water chamber and sump pumps working 5) JPC gave warranty for work done and signed up for once-a-year annual maintenance visit in October."

"Manuel responded to my original message in literally 2 minutes! He was unable to help over the weekend as it was late and parts were potentially needed. He and Johnnie arrived early Monday at the stated time. They analyzed the situation quickly. Manuel was thorough with the assessment and options recommended. We decided to have the water heater replaced. The gentlemen were efficient removing the old heater and installing the new one in a matter of a couple of hours! Manuel and Johnnie were very professional and personable. We would highly recommend them for anyone's plumbing needs."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, many providers offer warranties for new pumps and labor. Confirm terms before scheduling.

A sump pump should be placed at least three feet deep in a pit. The rim of the sump pump basin should be level with your basement floor. If you find your pit is too deep, you can fill the bottom with gravel until the rim of the sump pump is flush with the floor.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

Some sump pumps are powered by water rather than electricity. Water-powered sump pumps generally use one gallon of city water to pump out two gallons of water from its basin. Therefore, if you're looking at a potential 10,000-gallon flood, your sump pump will need to use 5,000 gallons of city water to prevent it.

No. Sump pumps have different capacities, which refers to the volume of water that they can remove. They also come in various horsepower ratings, which measure the size of the pump’s motor. For many homes, 1/3 horsepower is enough. But if you live in an area that floods often, you might need a more powerful model.
