"Bailey Tree Company was awesome. They showed up right on time and started working. The arborists were professional, courteous and safe. They trimmed three trees in the front of my house and took down 2 big trees in my back yard. Nothing was damaged and they cleaned everything up afterwards. The yard and side yard look even better than before they started. I should also mention the staff at the office. They kept me up to date with everything going on regarding my appointment (weather issues). They were always available and took my payment over the phone once the job was completed. They were the nicest people I have spoken to on the phone. Best thing... the price was the best quote I received after calling multiple companies. I would highly recommend them to anyone searching for tree services. The money is not their priority. The satisfaction of the customer is what matters to them. This is proven with the follow up call I received from their office, checking in to see how the work went."

"Acorn trimmed two cypress trees in our narrow side yard, removing some branches and shortening others. After the job was finished the tree looked smaller, just what we wanted, with few noticeable signs the shrinkage had been due to trimming."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

You don’t always need a permit to grind a stump, but you might need one depending on your location and the stump’s surroundings. Permits are often needed if the stump is part of a protected tree species, near public areas or utility lines, or close to environmentally sensitive zones like wetlands. Some cities also regulate noise and work hours. Always check local rules before grinding, and contact your city or county office if you're unsure.

If you’re wondering whether you can plant a tree where the stump was removed, know that the soil conditions won’t be ideal, so you should avoid it. The soil beneath the previous tree will likely be depleted of nutrients, plus there may be roots left behind that will seriously hinder the growth of a new tree. Also, if you use salt or other chemical solutions to kill the stump, these can linger in the soil for months or even years and prevent healthy growth. It’s best to choose a different spot that’s at least three feet away for a new tree, or wait at least a year and thoroughly amend the soil before you plant.
