"I can't recommend Reign Roofing enough! They completed our steep roof project in just one week, and the quality of work is excellent. After receiving quotes from 10 other roofers, Reign Roofing stood out for its professionalism, reasonable pricing, and transparency. Our insurance (USAA) was difficult, offering only half of the replacement cost, but Reign Roofing worked with them to submit a detailed estimate and get our roof fully covered. We’re grateful for their hard work and help navigating the insurance process. Thank you, Reign Roofing!"

"August Roofing sent Daniel to meet with me to assess where the areas may be that were causing the leaks. Daniel took his time and really evaluated my entire roof to find where he felt the leaks were occurring. He even looked into my drop ceiling to find traces of a leak. Once he gave me the proposal, the workers who did the job were prompt, efficient and left no mess. I had to wait three months after the work to see if the leaks had been corrected as it was summer and we had no rain. After the first rain we found that the roof was totally fixed but we had a leak around a sky light. I called August Roofing to come back down to address this. They were back out within a week and patched around the sky light as needed. Although I will have to wait for the next rain to see if the patching worked, I have full confidence that if there is any leaking August Roofing will make it right. Everyone at this company, from the person who answers the phone, to the workers that do the job, are pleasant and professional. As a building owner, I am thrilled to have a great roofing company when needed. I had two other bids, one of which wanted to sell me a whole new roof and the other much higher in price for a patching but they were not sure where leak was coming from. Really glad I chose August Roofing!!!!"

"Hired All Roofing to replace my roof about a year ago. Of all the other competitors, they had the most competitive pricing. The roof is about 2,800 square feet and it took them 6 working days start to finish. Their lifetime warranty was the most attractive part of the offer. All in all a very simple experience with them. Good communication, good workmanship, and a good price. 5/5 would definitely recommend"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Furring strips (also called wood stripping) are not always necessary for a metal roof installation, but they are highly recommended and may be required by local building codes or the roofing manufacturer's specifications. There are several key reasons to use them:

  • Energy Efficiency: Furring strips, made of wood or metal, create an air gap between the metal panels and the roof deck. This acts as a thermal break, reducing heat transfer into your home and improving overall energy efficiency.

  • Moisture and Condensation Control: The air gap allows for better airflow, which helps prevent moisture buildup and condensation under the metal panels.

  • Structural Support: They provide a solid, even frame to which you can attach the metal roofing panels.

It is especially important to use furring strips when installing a metal roof over existing shingles. Without them, the roof surface can be uneven, and you will experience greater solar heat gain.

Whether a metal or shingle roof is better for you depends on your preferences. Standing seam metal roofs require little to no maintenance, but if you install a screw-down metal roof where the fasteners are exposed, the gaskets on the fasteners will dry rot and need to be replaced. Generally, screw-down metal roofs need to be re-screwed every 15 to 20 years.

Metal roofs are energy-efficient and have extended warranties, while asphalt shingles are less durable than most. They tend to lose color and get damaged over time, and absorb heat from the sun.

A spray foam roof costs an average of $6,000 to install, making it one of the most affordable flat roofing options available. Costs can increase if you have a complex roof design with many roof vents or have a roof that’s larger than average. While up-front costs are relatively low, keep in mind that ongoing maintenance and repairs tend to be more expensive than you’d see with other flat roof materials.

Though cedar shakes often get confused with shingles, there are a few key differences between wood shakes and wood shingles. For one, cedar shingle prices are lower, although shingles are less durable than wood shakes. Cedar shakes are thicker than shingles (shingles range from about 3/8 to 1/2 inches thick, compared to 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick for shakes). Wood shakes are handmade, while shingles are usually machine-made. Also, wood shakes work better on steeper roofs than shingles do. While the cost of cedar shingles is more budget-friendly, there are many great reasons to choose shakes.

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.
