"They were very friendly and professional. The arborist did a great job of explaining everything and giving us some tips on keeping our trees healthy. They guys who trimmed our trees were great. We were very happy with the job they did. Great overall experience."

"Dwayne and his crew did an awesome job in removing a very large pine tree that was growing next to my house. It was very tricky on removing the tree with power lines in the way but they cleared all and did a great job of cleaning up. I thank them for an awesome job! I would and will recommend them for all tree services! Thank you!"

"Ron's company is truly a one stop shop to get your house in order. He and his team were such a pleasure to work with. He has been doing this for a very long time, and is an expert in tree cutting, yard work, and junk removal. He gave fair prices and was always fully transparent in the pricing structure and work schedule. And he is ALWAYS on site for the job, he doesn't not delegate the management to someone else. He also does everything by the book, and uses great business practices in all his work, which is refreshing in the contractor industry. Best of all, he and his crew are genuine and nice people, and love the work they do. I definitely recommend him and his company!"

"Clyde Smith was able to go to one of my properties in Burbank and removed the tree and cleaned up the entire mess! He was very professional and did the job in great time. I was shocked that he cleaned up the mess which included sweeping. He filled up the garbage cans and even took the cans to the street for us! I will definitely be using Smith Timber Falling & Tree Service for all my tree needs. I have used Clyde Smith before at another property where I needed palm trees removed! I have the same experience and with this one he went to our home in Las Vegas to do the work."

"Work, price, employees, great. However I asked the foreman to instruct his men to not use my neighbor's driveway to transport debris. The workers did, in fact, use their driveway. I wouldn't be concerned about this except these neighbors are problematic, I didn't want any complaints from them. The tree service cleaned up their driveway and so far I haven't heard any complaints from next door."

"Medinas Tree Service is the definition of excellent work. They are reliable, efficient and work with integrity. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for tree service from A-Z. They were able to cut and remove a tree in a mannerly time inside of my property. Left no mess behind. Overall I would hire them again. I wish I could leave 10 stars."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.

Pruning recommendations will vary by the type of tree, but generally, waiting until winter to prune your trees is a good idea.

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.

Burning a tree stump can be effective, but it comes with safety considerations and isn’t always best for every situation. It's essential to check local regulations and assess the safety risks involved. Stumps that are near wooden structures or other non-moveable flammable objects aren’t good candidates for burning due to the risk of the fire spreading. Alternatives like grinding or a DIY stump rotting project might be safer and quicker for getting the job done.

Unless it’s dead or dangerous, think twice about cutting down a tree in your yard. They’re good for health, well-being, wildlife, and the environment. Plus, local authorities often have regulations prohibiting the removal of trees, especially protected species or individual trees with historical value.

For safety reasons, leaning trees are best removed by a professional, as they may often tear away from the hinge, causing you to lose control over where the tree falls. If you choose to cut down a tree leaning slightly, avoid cutting off root protrusions before you start. Make your hinge a little longer than usual by cutting it deeper (up to 30% of the diameter) and applying a wedge into the felling cut on the side the tree is leaning. Stand away from the direction the tree leans while making your felling cut.
