"I am not experienced at hiring a contractor. Chris answered all my question. I viewed water proofing techniques on the internet. I educated myself. The installer of my shower door commented on how well everything lined up doing the installation. So if you are looking for a tile contractor Chris is your guy. I wanted to give a special shout out to Chrisâ s helper Isaac for his work and craftsmanship."

"Very promptly came out to inspect damage and make an estimate for the repair. Very friendly and courteous and very reasonable estimate. Lou even suggested he may be able to find matching replacements for the tiles that had broken. On the following Monday, he came out to do the repairs and was able to find matching tile. He charged what it cost him for the tile and added that to the bill as we had agreed. The finished work was excellent, the matching tile worked beautifully (old tile was faded a bit, but, unless you look hard, you cannot see the difference). We will certainly use him again in the future.

"After getting a number of quotes for doing the tile in our bathroom, we decided to go with Jose and JC Tile, and now that the job is complete, I can say it was the right decision for us. Communication is very important to me, and Jose always responded in a timely manner via phone and text message throughout the entire process. In my opinion and from a previous remodel experience, it is important for as many details to be discussed and noted prior to approving any contract. We agreed on work to be provided, and they surpassed my expectations. In addition to Jose, Norman and Randy were the crew members on this project, and my family appreciates their professionalism, work quality and in asking questions when it came down to decision making time for tile lines and options available. My kids liked everyone, which is unusual for strangers who come over to the house. The whole JC Tile team was flexible and worked with me on making everything discussed come to fruition."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

Add a T-shaped spacer to each corner of a tile when placing it. You’ll want to nudge the tiles closer together so the spacers are touching each corner. When you’re done installing your tile, you can remove each spacer, wash them, and use them for your next project.

Grouting hearth tiles is one of the most important steps. It seals the tiles so heat doesn’t transfer under the tiles so easily, which can be dangerous. For this reason, heat-resistant grout is a must. Grout also prevents dust, dirt, and any other material from gathering between your tiles. If this happens and those buildups are flammable, a fire could start between the tiles.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface.

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.
