"We have an office space below our home with a storage space next door to it. We wanted to install a bathroom in that empty storage space to, hopefully, make both rooms into a small inlaw unit. But first, we needed a designer. Someone in the construction industry recommended Igino Pellizzarri for the job. We called him and he responded quickly. My husband is very hands-on and wanted Igino to help guide his vision and create a full bathroom that would look great without breaking the bank. Igino was very accommodating; he gave us several design options and even showed us what a full expansion of the area would look like if we chose to build the space out for an ADU. He also supplied 3D drawings of the space to give us a better idea of the outcome. He was always ready to answer questions, and took care of getting all permits from the county for us. Igino is easy to work with and has an engaging personality. Give him a call!"

"Michael is very professional and knowledgeable. He took time to measure our place, explaining things could be done in different ways. I consulted with few others. He honestly gave me his advice that my ADU is not feasible money wise at the time being. Eventhough I took his advice and decided not to proceed with project. I really appreciate his expertise, his time and honesty. Thanks Michael."

"Shilpa working with her structural engineer completed all the architectural and structural plans and calculations for a 400SF single story addition, complete with drilled piers and grade beams, in just over two months for submittal to City for review. Shilpa is very easy to work with and is quite readily available to fit my work and project schedule. Shilpa is very responsive to my comments and timely completion of required documents. Cost is reasonable. City has few review comments and issued permit for construction. I would definitely retain Shilpa again when the need comes up."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Structural engineering in Napa homes addresses earthquake vulnerability, particularly for older properties needing earthquake retrofitting. It also resolves hillside stability concerns, foundation settlement from expansive clay soils, and repairs after wildfire damage. For wine country homes, structural upgrades ensure safe wine cellar storage and support for heavy loads. Deck and balcony safety, as well as modernizing aging infrastructure, are common issues solved through professional engineering.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Napa often underestimate the time and detail required for permit approval, especially with strict seismic and wildfire safety codes. Many overlook the importance of obtaining geotechnical and soil stability reports for hillside or clay-rich properties. Planning for fire-resistant upgrades, earthquake retrofitting, and utility coordination—such as ensuring safe power line clearances—are frequently missed steps that can delay or complicate structural engineering projects.

Helpful?

When planning structural engineering in Napa, consider the area’s high seismic risk and wildfire exposure, particularly in Wildland-Urban Interface zones. Hillside development may require specialized foundations for soil stability. Historic district guidelines and agricultural preserve restrictions can limit modifications. Water conservation rules and tourism-driven safety standards also impact project design, so review all local requirements and site-specific conditions before starting your structural engineering work.

Helpful?

Signs of quality structural engineering in Napa include completed permits, detailed inspection records, and documentation of earthquake retrofitting. Look for stamped plans from a licensed engineer, use of fire-resistant and moisture-barrier materials, and references to site-specific soil reports. Final inspection approvals and visible upgrades—such as reinforced foundations or hillside retaining walls—demonstrate that all safety standards and local requirements were met.

Helpful?

In Napa, a property’s current condition—such as foundation type, hillside placement, and soil composition—directly influences engineering decisions. Older homes may require extensive earthquake retrofitting, while hillside sites often need retaining walls or specialized foundations for soil stability. Previous wildfire damage or historic status adds unique requirements. Limited access, proximity to utilities, and the presence of wine production facilities also affect the approach to structural upgrades.
