Small jobs welcome

"Shan provided a great service and I recommend him if you need help to re-screen your windows. We had good communication, he responded back quickly and arrived at the scheduled time. The price was reasonable and he was polite, flexible, easy to work with. He replaced the screens on 11 windows and a patio door in under 3 hours. I am glad I called him. Thank you Shan!"

"Anthony replaced two hinges and added a third hinge to a 2-hinge door that had been sagging. It works great now. He is an expert in door installation and door hardware. Has very prompt, personable, and knowledgeable. His labor charges are reasonable. The company is family run with his wife at the front office while he is in the field."

"Before setting in my window, James allowed me to paint the 3 support posts which would have looked horrible if they weren’t painted. Victor did a really nice job of putting in the garden window panes and reinserting the rubber sealing strips."

"I contact AMG Doors through a recommendation from a friend. I contacted Michael and he was very knowledgeable about the different types of door materials and what material would work best for my area ( I get a lot of sun at my front door). Michael talked me into getting a thermatru front door and I obsoletely love it! AMG Doors already has a patio door on order for my home!"

"Ed did a very good job to repair my sliding glass door. He was able to use the existing rollers and clean the track. The door was just like new! He was done before I knew it. His prices were also very reasonable as I got two other quotes before I hired him. I also hired him to fix a plumbing problem where the hot and cold water were reversed. He was able to correct the problem easily. His knowledge of plumbing was obvious as he was able to even name the brand of the part just by looking at it. I would definitely hire him for any plumbing, electrical or handy work around the house."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

The average cost to screen-in your patio ranges from $2,000 to $4,000. How much you spend depends on the size of your patio, the materials used, and construction complexity. Some patio screen room kits are easy to DIY, but you may need to hire a local screened-in porch builder and obtain permits for more complex designs.

Most window screens last for about 10 to 12 years, assuming they are made from quality materials and receive proper care. The lifespan of common materials like fiberglass and aluminum can vary based on weather exposure, as constant sun or harsh winters can accelerate wear and tear. Regular cleaning and basic maintenance can help extend their life. Signs that a screen needs to be replaced include rips, tears, brittle or sagging material, fading, or a bent frame. While small tears can often be repaired, larger areas of damage typically mean it's time to replace the entire screen.

Pet-resistant, vinyl-coated polyester is one of the strongest window screen materials available, with some manufacturers touting a 7x increase in strength compared to standard fiberglass screens. Stainless steel security screens are also extremely strong, but they’re not suitable for coastal areas due to the risk of corrosion from salty sea air. If sea air isn’t a concern, stainless steel is extremely tough.

Yes, adding windows adds value to a brick house. Homeowners don’t shy away from more natural light and an opportunity to get fresh air. Adding a window is particularly beneficial if you live in an area with good weather for much of the year or if your home has a nice view. Keep in mind that many older brick homes have historic wood windows that add to the charm of the house. When you install a new window in a brick house, you’ll want to find one that matches the aesthetic of the existing windows.

While windows increase a home’s value, how much they increase it can vary. It depends on the age of the home and the type of windows. You can expect about 70% to 85% return on investment (ROI) when adding a window to your home.

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage
