Customers say: Quick response

"The crew showed up on time, did a great job in removing the trees, and cleaned up well after the job was done. The problem was that we have artificial turf (plastic). Even though we told the crew not to set their hot chain saws on the turf because it would melt, they melted five spots in the turf. This resulted in a $350 repair to replace the damaged turf. (It would have been more, but we had enough scraps left from the install to cover the damaged areas.) We deducted $350 from the bill charged for the tree removal. We would hire them again because they did a great job at removing the trees, and the other trees we have are a long distance from the artificial turf."

"Acorn trimmed two cypress trees in our narrow side yard, removing some branches and shortening others. After the job was finished the tree looked smaller, just what we wanted, with few noticeable signs the shrinkage had been due to trimming."

"Fantastic arrived on time, and everyone was a professional even the worker who cleaned up all the leaves and branches. The workers were all very skilled removed tree without needing to bother my next door neighbor except to clean up his yard at the end. Checked with me if the clean up was to my liking and also checked with my to see neighbor if he was satisfied with the clean up in his yard. Want to emphasize again how professional I found everyone, from the person that came to give the estimate to the cleanup crew. The person who gave the estimate knew what permits we needed and had a good knowledge of the laws for removing a valley oak. Very happy with Bells Tree service they do great work at a resonable price best of four estmates."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.

If you don’t stake a tree that needs support, it could be at greater risk of being damaged or failing completely, whether it uproots or falls over. That could cause damage to your property or other surrounding trees. If you want to grow healthy trees, you may need to stake them for best results.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

On grafted trees, tree suckers will grow from the root stock, not the branches grafted onto it. Therefore, the leaves and characteristics of the suckers aren’t the same as the tree because they are different varieties. Root stock has more hardiness, strength, or drought tolerance than its grafted limbs, so if the suckers are from fruit or flowers, it might be different than the main part of your tree.
