"Mr. Deshwal helped us with the architecture and structural engineering in our home remodel project. He helped us with the permit process and getting our designs iterated and approved with the City of Sunnyvale on time. He also helped with an addition of the master suite. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. We had several changes in our requirements along the way, and Mr. Deshwal was very flexible and supportive. We are very satisfied with his work and highly recommend him"

"My project manager was Ariel Ben. He was outstanding. He had great ideas, we went through multiple materials and layouts to find the right match. He stayed very conscious of my budget and kept me up to date with every phase of the project. Definitely by the far the best communication I've ever had with a contractor. His crew was timely and reliable and I was always informed on when they would be working. We hit all the project milestones and I think we even finished just a bit early. The bathroom looks beautiful, it came out so well I had to take multiple pics of it myself to show off. I'm very happy with the end result and would definitely recommend Ariel and B&B Builders to anyone."

"John and his crew at Momentum AE were wonderful from start to finish. John helped me design my first residential home and ADU (accessory dwelling unit) in Santa Cruz. His knowledge of architecture and engineering made the design portion of the home a breeze.

I would recommend Momentum AE to anyone that is looking for an Architect/Engineer/Real Estate Brokerage in Santa Cruz. I can officially say Momentum AE is a one stop shop when it comes to residential or commercial development

Thanks again John!!!!!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.

Indications include cracks in walls, uneven floors, and sticking doors or windows that suggest foundation movements.

It depends on the bank and the extent of the issue. Some banks will lend against homes with minor foundation damage, but most won’t if the issue is structural since the home acts as collateral for the mortgage. Banks that offer renovation loans might still finance a home with structural problems. More minor issues like settling cracks and intermittent problems with humidity are unlikely to stop a bank from financing.

Structural engineers are necessary for projects involving alterations to load-bearing structures, foundation work, and compliance with safety standards. This includes home expansions, retaining walls, and significant repairs that impact a property's integrity.
