"Very professional and courteous, the contractor that worked with JIG Plumbing was also excellent. Here on time everyday, left the area clean or out of the way at the end of each day and completed the project within the time and price they quoted. They did a great job remodeling the bath, updating my bedroom and retiling my the floors in the bedroom, dining room and hallway. I even had JIG repipe my main sewer line during the remodel process. I will call them for any job I need done concerning my home interior or plumbing needs. I highly recommend JIG Plumbing for the your plumbing and remodel projects."

"Jacques and C & M Kitchen Cabinets did a fantastic job with my kitchen remodel. Jacques kept me updated each step of the way, his design was just what I wanted, his crew were respectful of my home and were professional. I wouldn't change a thing and am going to use Jacques for my 2 bathroom remodels without hesitation. I have recommended Jacques to friends who have also used C & M Kitchen Cabinets."

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

Even a single, one-time exposure to asbestos can be harmful and pose health risks. According to the EPA, any contact can increase the risk of developing asbestos-related diseases and certain types of cancer, although the likelihood of severe health issues increases with repeated or prolonged exposure.

The severity of a single exposure depends on factors like the duration, intensity, and concentration of the asbestos fibers. While a small amount is less likely to cause significant damage, a high concentration can lead to serious long-term lung damage. Individual reactions vary, and asbestos-related illnesses may not appear for 10 to 40 years after inhalation.

Given these risks, always take precautions around any material suspected to contain asbestos. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may not be completely effective. If you suspect asbestos is in your home, hire a professional for testing and removal. If you are worried about a potential exposure, consult your doctor.

While it's possible to cover asbestos tile with carpet, it's not recommended. Encapsulating tile beneath carpet doesn't eliminate the health risks. Over time, the asbestos tiles could degrade, releasing fibers into the air and potentially contaminating the carpet. Disturbance during carpet installation or removal might also release fibers.

Professionals use specialized equipment and techniques to detect asbestos, radon, and VOCs.

If asbestos is found, it is crucial to consult with a professional. They will provide recommendations for appropriate abatement actions, which may include safe removal, containment, sealing, or enclosure. All actions must be planned and executed in accordance with local regulations for handling asbestos.

Since DIY asbestos removal isn’t the best option to save money, there are other steps that you can take to help cut costs when dealing with this project. After speaking with your asbestos removal expert, discuss if encapsulation is an option. If it is, you can save between 15% to 25% on overall project costs over demolition and disposal. In addition, when speaking with your professional, discuss if there are any tax credits available for your removal project. Finally, check with your homeowner’s insurance to see if any removal costs might be covered. However, be aware that this is usually only applicable if the asbestos is due to a covered incident, like a tree falling into your roof.
