"Weâ  ve never dealt with a more professional, knowledgable, detailed oriented contractor than with Avram Remo & his sons. Excellent craftsman, he envisions the repair/build before he starts and explains the steps heâ  s working on and gets our approval before moving on. He was here every day, and worked a solid 8 hours . He does all the carpentry work himself to endure everything is done to code. Heâ  s licensed & bonded in California. The quote was reasonable and we would definitely use him again and highly recommend him. If we could give Remo Construction more than 5 Starsâ ¦we definitely would!"

"I'm very happy with the work that I had done as well as the very fair price. David made sure to explain what was happening as he completed the project, and worked with me on the best way to address some issues that were uncovered as the old roof was removed. They showed up exactly when they said they would, and finished right on schedule."

"Abel & his team did an amazing job with our cabinets & countertops! Communication was great & got a quote quickly. His team went to work & finished in 3 days! Absolutely amazing how quickly they worked. Abel knew we were on a time crunch because our lease was coming up & he and his team delivered. I would definitely recommend to family & friends"

"After 2 months that Joe and his sraff replaced 2 facia panels, the wooden panel showed signs of crackes. His staff came and replaced one of the panels, 6 feets, free of charge. They were very efficient and profeciaonal and they perfomrd good job in the second time. I recommend Joe and his staff for any wood frame work."

"Still in process, but so far they have been excellent. We have run into a snag with the job the flooring company (it was NOT done by JB Custom Finish .. Now I wish I had used them) and JB has, and is, doing everything they can to help us through this."

"An engineering friend recommended that I contact Farid to inquire about his carpentry skills, after seeing his work on a few projects. Farid personally came out, drafted a proposal after carefully inspecting the necessary repairs, and worked regularly and diligently to vastly improve the strength and appearance of my 17 year old backyard structure. It was a very pleasant experience overall, and Farid and his assistant Eddie did a beautiful job. Would hire again."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.

Accurate measurements, sturdy materials, and seamless integration with other structures.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.
