"Hi-Tech Termite inspected a property five years ago, diagnosed drywood termites, selected a fumigation company, and got paid. Now we are preparing to sell the house and another pest inspection company found drywood termites in the same places. We asked Hi-Tech if there was anything they could do about it since their fume obviously didn't work. Leilani in the office said "Let me send our manager out to see what we can do." Benjamin Ortiz then went to the property and called to say that he thinks they have no responsibility because their warranty expired. Then he declared that he's going to write a whole new pest inspection with worse findings and bigger estimates for repairs and file it with the state and he did. So we have deep regret that we paid Hi-Tech for work a few years ago that obviously wasn't done well enough to prevent the same bugs in the same places, and even deeper regret that we asked them if they would stand behind the work. Diamond Certified? Not on this one."

  • Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.  

  • Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away. 

  • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

The most effective natural roach repellent is Borax with its key ingredient of boric acid and diatomaceous earth. But some homeowners may not feel like these are “natural” enough, especially since you can’t use Borax around curious pets or toddlers.

On the other hand, studies have shown that oregano oil mixtures have some of the best repellent effects, and other research indicates that catnip oil, peppermint oil, and citrus oils have notable effects on keeping roaches away. Rosemary oil has been shown to be the most effective natural oil for killing cockroaches outright.

Several skin conditions and insect bites can be mistaken for a tick bite, including mosquito bites, spider bites, chigger bites, and even allergic reactions. Tick bites often start as small red bumps, which may develop into a bullseye-shaped rash if Lyme disease is transmitted. However, similar-looking rashes can result from conditions like eczema, ringworm, or hives. Without a visible tick, it can be hard to confirm the source, so it’s best to monitor the area for changes and consult a doctor if symptoms like fever, fatigue, or worsening redness occur.
