"Trevor and his crew did an excellent job both times. They are prompt, polite and professional. We would not hesitate to hire them again and in fact did so with a second job to remove 5 tree stumps and 1 evergreen bush. To trim the 30 Italian Cypress Trees it was - $1500 To remove 5 large tree stumps and 1 Evergreen bush - $900"

"Maya's did a fantastic job removing a large magnolia tree and stump grinding. The team worked relentlessly to down the tree and clean the surrounding area of leaf debris. Came back the following day to grind the stump. I would recommend for tree trimming service."

Cut grass & removed cutting. Used blower & rakes & cleaned up the whole area up. Definitely brought the right tools for the job. Very professional! Hard working. "C & H Gardens Artistic Landscape & Tree Service did a fantastic job in my backyard. They worked within my budget. My planting beds were cleaned out, weed barrier installed and new succulents planted. They worked with me on design and planting. They also re-installed stairs to allow access into my canyon lot. Finally they installed a retaining wall to support my mature sycamore tree that is on a slope and also terraced above the tree on the slope. The workmen were efficient and friendly. I would definitely recommend this business for your landscaping needs.1"

"La Costa came right away to give us a bid and came the next day to use their chipper to chip the branches of our 14 trees that were trimmed by our gardener. They finished the job quickly and cleaned up the area. Their price was really good and their service was excellent. I would hire them again if I need our trees trimmed, instead of having our gardener do the trimming."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Generally, you’ll want to avoid pruning more than 25% of the tree’s canopy at one time. While pruning your tree is important, it’s possible to do it too often or to go too far. Again, this is why hiring a tree trimming pro to do the work is wise. However, if you do decide to DIY, going slow and trimming gradually is the name of the game.

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Ivy eventually kills trees by restricting its growth, blocking sunlight, absorbing nutrients and water from the soil, and weakening the tree. Trees with ivy are more likely to experience diseases, pests, rot, and fungi growth. When ivy weighs down tree branches, the tree is more likely to break during a storm and cause damage.

Cutting down a dead tree is always strongly advisable. Aside from being an eyesore, a dead tree can be extremely hazardous, especially when it’s near people or structures. Even if the tree isn’t near your home, it can still harbor pests and diseases that can potentially spread to nearby plants and homes.
