"The shower is old and looked it's age, the shower required some filling of cracks; both the bathtub and the shower looked brand new and amazing after the work was completed. We were very very pleased with the results."

"Sewage blockage and needed cleanout replaced: they were quick to respond and quoted a great price compared to others. I had to question some of the work, more than I cared to, but they got the work done. As with anyone, be clear on what you want done and don't be afraid to check work along the way or ask questions. No complaint for the money."

"Hired to remodel 2 bathrooms. I should have hired Arayik to do the tile in the showers and floors only. The tile work was fine but electrical, plumbing and woodworking was unacceptable. Electrical outlets that were relocated had to be reset and wall repairs had to be redone to allow texture and paint to be done. Base boards installed by Arayik had very uneven gaps above tile floor and had to be replaced."

"Ovation did a great job installing a new tiled shower in our basement bathroom. They were easy to work with on design and executed exactly what I wanted for a competitive price. However, the project took 2x the estimated time they rarely proactively communicated about timelines or who would be on the job site doing what when."

"Thanks to Valley Design & Construction, my home now has the beautiful kitchen it deserves. Vadim, with his keen eye for design, worked out a sleek, modern plan that added at least 40 percent to the cabinet space--while opening up the kitchen without adding square footage. I’m loving not only the beauty but the functionality too, and adventures in the kitchen are fun once again! Vadim and his team are masterful in their workmanship and attention to detail; they delivered the very best in every way. Another important point is that Vadim is personable--warm, courteous, and truly a good listener. I look forward to working with them on my bathroom remodels and more. Without reservation, I recommend Valley Design & Construction."

"The quality of the trades people in this company far exceeds what I expected. They take no shortcuts! Serge did an excellent job on all of the tile work and quickly followed up when there were any issues. Fred and Alex are very skilled and talented at all that they do (which was everything else). I recently had a plank in my engineered floor delaminate. Fred came out, removed the plank and replaced it in about an hour, even though this was more a manufacturing defect, not an installation issue. The people that worked in my home were very conscientious and ethical. And Happy! There was always music and singing."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Plan your budget, storage needs, accessibility features, and design aesthetics before starting.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

In some cases, people are getting rid of bathtubs because of the floor space they gain after removal. Showers can make more efficient use of bathroom space. In some cases, people get rid of tubs for accessibility purposes. It can be difficult for some individuals to step into and out of a tub. For these people, a shower with no lip or step is safer and easier to use than a tub.

Alcove tubs come in fiberglass, acrylic, or enameled steel. Fiberglass is the most affordable but least durable, while acrylic is the highest-end and most durable (as long as you don’t go with a poor grade of acrylic, which will be prone to scratches). Enameled steel, where a steel tub is coated in a layer of porcelain, is a wallet-friendly middle ground. This material is highly durable but prone to chips.

If you don’t caulk your bathtub, then there won’t be a watertight seal between your bathtub and the wall tile surrounding it. As a result, water can seep into the wall and the floor and cause the perfect breeding grounds for mold and mildew. Not only does this require costly repairs, but mold can be harmful to those breathing it.
