"I first hired Roper Tree Surgeon & Landscaping in June 2014 to do a major tree cutting on some huge ficus trees.  This project required a truck with a boom, another truck with a large wood-chipper, and an experienced crew capable of cutting big trees so close to my house.  Roper surpassed my expectations in every way, and I was thrilled with the outcome.
When Mr. Roper and I discussed additional projects, I was really impressed with his knowledge, and willingness to help me with free advice and without any sales pitch.   So I hired the company again in July for a large landscaping project, which included:  A new automatic sprinkler system, replacing the front lawn and parkway grass with sod, replacing old shrubs with planting of new flowers, trees, and shrubs, and root pruning ficus trees and replacing the sidewalk destroyed by the roots.
Roper Tree finished the project on time and on budget.  I couldn't be happier with the results!  Mr. Roper takes genuine pride in his work, does not look for shortcuts, and does what he promises to do.   He is driven by customer satisfaction.  I look forward to working with Mr. Roper again, and recommend him wholeheartedly!"

Small jobs welcome

"They are fast and efficient. I intend them to hire them for other projects like staining an outdoor wood patio in the future as well. He has also trimmed trees for me as well. I live on a hillside and this year they cleared the hillside for me. This included removing old rail road ties left by the previous owner."

"Put in the request with Home Advisor on Saturday night, in about 5 minutes I received a call from Rigo from 3-D Tree services. They came out to give me a quote 15 minutes later. I was happy with the quote so I hired them. The quote was to trim two large (About 40 feet tall) trees and remove another large tree. They showed up Sunday morning at 8:00 exactly on time, and were amazing. Roger (Son of Rigo) was great. Walked us through the process made sure there was a clear understanding of what they were going to do and they went to it. They ended up bringing a cherry picker, wood chipper, and stump grinder. All of the workers were great. They ended up leaving our place cleaner then it was when they got there. We could not be happier. 17 hours after I put in the request to Home Advisor our tree issues were completely solved. I would definitely hire them again.... Chris"

"I so appreciated the honest professionalism of Maya. I will hire him in March to trim my oak tree. He explained that oaks can become diseased when trimmed at a time other than March to August. Even though he could have had the job now, he was most interested in keeping my tree safe. Less"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

A tree can grow back from its stump, but full regrowth is unlikely (especially for more stubborn conifer trees). Instead, trees are more likely to send up a number of shoots from the dead stump, which will try to develop into primary stems over time. In other words, it will start to look increasingly bushy. The goal of killing and drying out a tree stump is to prevent that from happening, as well as make the stump easier to completely remove.

If you don’t cut down a dead, dying, or diseased tree, it can become a nesting place for pests like mosquitos, bees, beetles, wasps, fly larvae, and more. Some pests will live in the tree, while others will feed off the decaying wood. Unhealthy trees are also more likely to fall over, potentially injuring people and causing damage to your property.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.

The best way is to start controlling tree height long before it grows too large, via careful pruning through the years. But that’s not always possible. If a tree has become too high or too large, use selective pruning to remove the most troublesome branches, one by one, without topping the tree. Gently shaping a tree like this can, over time, correct problems. You can also find growth inhibitors to spray on a tree to stop it from growing too rapidly, but use these sparingly if at all.
