"I hired the AZ Painting Co to repaint the exterior of my small stucco home. They also replaced some rotting wood and power washed a small stain on my block wall. At the time they were offering a 10% discount. I thought they did a great job, worked quickly and efficiently and I would definitely hire them again!"

"My house looks beautiful! It hasn’t been painted since 1992. The wood trim looked really bad. They really did a good job making it look much better. The colors I picked turned out beautiful, Dunn, Edwards Parisian night for the wood trim and French white for the siding and stucco. The guys were very courteous, fast and efficient. Good job!"

"I already gave American Home Pros a 5-star review when they completed the job, which also included extensive stucco repair and replacement of rotten wood. Now, I want to praise their exceptional customer service. About 3 months after completion something happened to damage some of our paint. It was not a warranty issue, but American Home Pros immediately responded to my plea to have a technician complete the repair, so that we could maintain the high quality exterior they had given us. They scheduled the job promptly, did an amazing job, and Alex could not have been more competent or professional. I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone!"

"My experience with Eric from First Class Coatings could not have been better. I was moving into my new house in Cave Creek that gave Eric a very limited time frame to complete his 3 day project. He met me at my house to choose the style and coloring. Throughout the project Eric did a great job of contacting me and giving me updates on the project. He even went out himself on a Sunday afternoon to finish up a portion of the flooring using a fast drying add in so that my builder was not inconvenienced. The finished floor was perfect. I highly recommend Eric and his team."

"Dany and crew painted exterior of my house which had needed painting for past few years. They did an excellent job with prep like caulking scraping and sanding. The paint job was done carefully and with attention to detail. Dany and crew were friendly and responsive. I'm referring him to friends and will have him. Do the interior in a few months. You can't lose when you hire him."

"My experience with True Built was refreshing. We hired them to do a complete replacement of our tile roof. Weston was polite, friendly and clearly knows his business. He even came out a second time after we received the estimate to answer the additional questions we had. Communication was great. We had a couple of rain delays but Weston kept in touch to let us know what was going on and when his crew would be out. Once the work started, they knocked out the whole job. No disappearing for a few days and then showing up again. The crew was polite and cleaned up at the end of each day. The roof looks great and Weston was great about doing the little things the way I wanted them done. Their estimate was also the lowest of the 3 we received. If this is your first time replacing a tile roof (like it was for us), we did learn a couple of things: 1. If you want the multi-colored tile, you might want to pick tiles which have the 3 tone variation within each individual tile. We picked the kind where each tile is a slightly different shade which means you could end up with clusters of the same color in areas. Weston was great about this though, after the job was finished he sent his guys out 2 more times to move tiles around to make the colors more evenly distributed. 2. Talk to your roofer about what will need to be painted after the work is done and factor that into your budget or be prepared to paint it yourself. We didn’t realize there would be a small piece of trim added that would need to be painted. After getting a really high estimate from a painter, we ended up doing it ourselves and just repainted all the trim to match the new bird stop. It looks great but it was a lot of work on a 2 story house. Overall the experience with True Built was wonderful and I already recommended them to all my neighbors. I wish all jobs with contractors went that smoothly! I would not hesitate to use them again."

"Bila and his crew did an extraordinary job!  I could not ask for more.  The lines are perfect and the coverage is as well.  The painters were extremely cautious around doors and trim.  Prep and clean-up was top of the line and all persons were professional and very pleasant.  I have hired a number of painters in my lifetime and never before had such a positive experience and professional result.  I highly recommend this company for your painting needs!

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Staining a deck is typically less expensive upfront than painting. The cost to stain a deck professionally averages around $850, with most homeowners paying between $550 and $1,250, depending on the deck's size. A DIY staining project can cost less than $100. The cost to paint a deck ranges from $500 to $2,000. While the initial cost of staining is lower, it's important to consider long-term expenses. Paint can last up to 10 years, whereas stain needs to be reapplied every few years, which could lead to higher costs over time.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.
