"Terminix was quick to respond and to get out here for a termite inspection, which is what we needed. However, they signed us up for pest control and said their agent would be out to care for us right away. So far haven’t seen him yet. Will give 5 stars if that turns out well."

Moles live underground and feed on insects. They dig and move through tunnels, usually in meadows or forests but sometimes in lawns and gardens. They are about 6 inches long with large claws, tiny eyes, and hidden ears. 

Shrews do not dig their own tunnels but will use other animals’ tunnels, and are about 3 to 4 inches long. They look similar to mice and feed on insects.

Voles are similar in size to moles but have large eyes and small but visible ears. Rather than eating insects, voles are herbivores that prefer seeds, grasses, and plant roots.

Some of the smells we love are, thankfully, pretty putrid for mosquitoes. A few essential oils that might have them swarming in the other direction include:

  • Citronella

  • Eucalyptus

  • Cinnamon

  • Thyme

Be careful how and where you apply essential oils around pets and children, and top them off regularly so they stay effective.

In certain cases, yes, the bees may go away on their own, but it’s a risk. Some bee types, such as bumblebees, create seasonal nests and then die out as their new queens seek homes elsewhere. On the other hand, studies have shown that oregano oil mixtures have some of the best repellent effects, and other research indicates that catnip oil, peppermint oil, and citrus oils have notable effects on keeping roaches away. Rosemary oil has been shown to be the most effective natural oil for killing cockroaches outright.

Flea eggs can’t take heat, so use that information to your advantage. Take any affected clothes and linens and wash them on a hot setting (140℉ or higher) to kill them off. You can also rid carpets and furniture using heat. After vacuuming all surfaces thoroughly, use a steam mop or cleaner to get rid of the remaining flea eggs and residue. 

Flea eggs also can’t handle extreme cold. You could seal affected linens and store them in a freezer.
