"While I hadn't initially planned to spend extra money for an engineer, I'm very much satisfied with my decision to do so. It was indeed worth it! I felt it best to employ the services of a professional to help with my first home, so I did an online search for structural engineers, and came across Hall Engineering. Honestly, Martin was great! He was prompt(actually a few minutes early!), professional, personable, and very knowledgeable. It was a really enjoyable experience! His answers were honest, practical, and helped me to make design decisions that I'd contemplated for a while. He took the time to actually explain what could, or couldn't be done based on current structuring, and what would be cost effective. He even took an extra trip up into the attic to be thorough about the information he gathered, and the answers that he was giving me. I'm sure he's quite busy, and knowing that, I really appreciate the extra time he took to make that extra attic trip. When it's time for the next project(front porch addition) I definitely plan to contact Martin; and will recommend him to anyone I know that could use his expertise! Thanks again!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Little Rock, recurring cracks in walls or foundations after repair—especially following seasonal wet-dry cycles—suggest ongoing soil movement. If doors or windows stick again, floors feel uneven, or beams show new stress after storms or flooding, prior work may not have addressed underlying issues. Repairs done before recent code changes or without proper inspection often need reevaluation to ensure long-term stability.

Helpful?

In Little Rock, homes often face structural engineering challenges with foundations due to shifting clay soils and frequent soil movement, especially after heavy rains or droughts. Pier and beam foundations and older concrete slabs are particularly vulnerable. Roof framing can suffer from storm damage, while load-bearing walls and crawl spaces in historic neighborhoods may require reinforcement to address settling or meet current building standards.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering projects in Little Rock enhances comfort by reducing drafts, moisture intrusion, and noise—common issues in homes affected by shifting soils or severe weather. Reinforced foundations and roofs help protect against storm damage and flooding. Upgrades can also allow for open layouts and larger windows, increasing natural light and making your home more resilient and enjoyable year-round.

Helpful?

In Little Rock, homes built before the 1950s or those on uneven terrain near the Arkansas River can present unique structural challenges. Lack of original blueprints, split-level layouts, and wide-span ranch designs often conceal hidden settling or stress points. If your home features crawl spaces, additions, or has experienced previous flooding, these factors can complicate engineering assessments and repairs.

Helpful?

Combining structural engineering work with other upgrades in Little Rock is often efficient. For example, addressing foundation repairs is an ideal time to install sump pumps or improve drainage to prevent future soil movement. Roof reinforcement can be paired with adding storm-resistant shingles. When remodeling, tackling structural, electrical, and plumbing updates together minimizes disruption and ensures your home meets modern standards.
