“They [the homeowners] are semi-empty nesters now, and they just really wanted a space where they could have gatherings with adult children or for entertaining, where the kitchen was a part of that gathering space instead of another room,” says Darlene Gayler, vice president of Gayler Construction.

Prior to the remodel, a wall blocked off the kitchen from the living room. Removing that wall opened up the space to make the two rooms flow together, Gayler says.

The kitchen also contained old appliances, such as a push-button stove top. Gayler demolished the old kitchen and redesigned it, installing an island to create a gathering space. They also put new cabinetry in the dining room.

“What I liked best about this was that it really transformed the space and opened it up,” she says. “Everybody loves it. Everybody sits at the island and really loved the whole feeling it created.”
