Central New England Soapstone

Showed up on time, created the templates and cut the stone on site. Managed through some unexpected installation issues due to the cabinets. Since Dave is a master carpenter, he helped resolve the issue and the installation went smoothly. If you're installing soapstone in New England, there's nobody better.

They were really awesome. They're very nice and they have a good selection. They were helpful and the installers were really awesome. I wasn't here for the install but my husband was and he said they were very professional and knowledgeable. We are certainly very happy with the finished product. They called a couple days after the install and confirmed that everything was okay and it was. I think countertops are expensive in general no matter where I go. I wouldn't say they're the cheapest place, but they aren't the most expensive either. They have pretty standard pricing. They set an appointment time for the installation and they were here on time.

These folks are exceptional. Professional, courteous and they handled my last minute "crisis" with so much care and patience - I couldn't be happier. The installers were also polite and worked quickly, efficiently and produced an excellent result.

This project was a bit complicated. A quartz product that we originally selected was brought to our home and installed. Within minutes it became apparent that there was a defect in the manufacture of the quartz slab. The defect became visible after the stone was positioned on our cabinets. It was absolutely not the fault of International Stone Gallery. The installer took immediate measures to contact his supervisor and report the problem. Since the defect could not be repaired we were encouraged to select another stone. Without going into extensive detail, I will summarize by saying that everyone who works for this company assisted us in selecting a slab of granite that looks wonderful in our kitchen. The second installation was done in a timely and professional manner. Despite the defect in the quartz, International Stone Gallery should receive a positive evaluation based all other aspects of the transaction. When a problem arises and is dealt with efficiently and effectively the company deserves a very positive review.

It was September of 2006 when International Stone Gallery came to install the countertops. After the job was complete, there was a problem with the installation. I had called them and asked that they come and fix the issue. It was just last week that they came back out to fix their mistake. They would not return my calls, sometimes they would say someone would be out the next day and no one would come. Working with this company had been a nightmare.

They gladly took the order and told me "2 to 4 weeks". But they never updated me, never gave me a date for the installation. Phone calls weren't answered. My emails to them prompted vague "maybe late next week" answers. Eventually I wore them down and they installed the stone. Great workmanship, but terrible customer service. Price was no bargain either vs other supplier. Should have gone through Home Depot.

First: the time critical portions of the project were done as promised. Next: the quality of the work is OUTSTANDING! The fit and finish are superb - doors, windows, flooring and all. The only repair needed was a leaking sink: The sink was not installed by Povero but by the granite counter top provider who insisted that only his installers knew how to install a sink in granite. (One sink installed in granite supplied by another provider was put in by Povero and has never leaked a drop) One do: Povero is quite in demand so you have to allow sufficient lead time to get on his list. The only recurring problem was obtaining materials: The first two shower enclosures were damaged - one in shipping or handling and the other in production. When it came time to do the 2nd shower, Ed instisted that we select an enclosure on hand rather than ordering an enclosure. Although this limited our selections, it did work and we had the shower in time. Biggest problem was light fixtures: On the archichtest's recommendation, we acqulred plumbing and light fixtures ourselves - therefore there could be no criticism of the contractors' choices. However, the exterior lighting fixtures for the exterior stairs were a problem: although the vendor insisted they ahd sufficient quantity on hand to fill our order, they lied! the order was only partially shipped and after a considerable delaly, the vendor admitted that they could not complete the order ever. We did eventually obtain a complementary fixture, but in the mean time Ed had finished all the other work he had to do on our project; he did later return to install the fixtures; there was also the same sort of problem with metal balisters for the stair rails; Ed had to return to install them. IMHO this is an aritfact of globalization of supply i.e. you get what ever the Chinese put on the ship and it gets here whenever it gets here in whatever condition it gets here. There are interesting ironies: no problem getting exactly the Italian marble we want when we want it but light fixtures you get what you get when you get it. Moral here: Order very early. Local vendors: we started with Home Depot but switched to Leows and were quite pleased with Loew's service. No secret that the person selling you a box of nails is working hourly, but the big ticket items people sell on commission. We found that the Home Depot salesperson was only interested in the initial sale and wouldn't talk to us when there was a billing problem aka sleazy sales practice while the Leows people went to bat with us with the suppliers to get the problem resolved, even calling the manufacturer to find that no matter what the manufacturer's catalog said, the item was no longer made. What I can't say is whether this is a systemic problem or simply the stores we were dealing with. The final do: I would use North Coast aka Povero any time and would recommend with only one reservation: Plan ahead!

I went to their showroom, they invited me to browse, they checked in to see if I had any questions. I chose what I wanted, they came and measured. They delivered and installed. Everything went very smoothly - the only part of the remodeling of my bathroom that did, I might add.

It’s not granite -- it’s like a regular some kind of washable formica -- I guess it’s a little bit higher quality. He built some custom to fit my kitchen. I picked out the color I wanted and he charged me $800 for color and installation. It’s like a custom countertop. It was done in July 2013. He was an elderly man, in his 60’s or older, he did it by himself. You can tell he knew what he was doing and he was doing it for years. He did it quickly and cleaned up the whole mess. I was pleased.

After a month of phone calls and visits to the showroom me and my wife had an appointment to have our bathroom floor installed and had just placed the order for the vanity, countertop, sink, mirror, and other hardware. As of that time the only complaint we had was that we would not receive return phone calls promptly or at all. This I could live with, but when nobody arrived to the scheduled appointment for installing the floor I was very upset. When we called and complained the ladies in the office were rudely informed us that there was never an appointment made and we needed to pay half first. This would have been an understandable situation but when we were in the showroom two days before ordering the vanity we tried to pay the half on the floor and were told not to and they would take full payment on installation. Now seven months later I still have not received a call back about either the floor or the rest of the work.

I cannot say enough good things about Aleks and his crew, and it is my pleasure to give them an "A" rating in every category. We started the project with a fairly long list, and the list continued to grow as the work progressed. I have worked with contractors in the past, and I have often experienced resistance to "added work." Not with Aleks. His response was always the same: "No problem." This is our weekend home, so we would usually only see Aleks when we arrived toward the end of their work day on Fridays. The entire crew is very polite and professional.(How often does an entire crew shake your hand as they are leaving?) Over the weekend we would come up with a list of items for Aleks to take a look at or address and email it to him on Sunday night. Without fail, by the following Friday, all of the things on the list were addressed. They made sure the place was cleaned for our arrival and even limited themselves to the use of only one of the bathrooms so the others could be kept pristine. When I first met with Aleks, he was very up front that he could not start the work for a few months. He explained he did it that way because once he started the project, he wanted to be able to dedicate his crew to our project alone. He was true to his word, and his crew was there every weekday from the start of the project to the end. Communications with Aleks, mostly via text, were always polite, professional, and prompt (even on weekends, when I ought not to have been bothering him). I will (and already have) recommended Aleks and AMV Interiors to friends and neighbors, and I would (and will) hire him and his crew again in the future.

We are completely satisfied with the quality of the finished work - even more we are delighted with the quality of the fit & finish of the work. The structural work was the responsibility of an architect who was also satisfied with the quality of the work. Renovation of one bathroom was done to a very exacting schedule - an upcoming wedding - and Povero met the deadline.

I did not ever receive a written estimate from them. In the store when I initially requested the information, the lady's service was good and that's basically where it stopped. The guy that came to do the estimate was not very thorough and I was disappointed with his professionalism. I would not recommend them and I will not use them again.

It went great. Contractor, AMC Interiors, Alex, showed up when arranged. Alex and his team came prepared. They asked lots of questions throughout the process to make sure they got it right. They did extensive work gutting both rooms, replaced windows, had to level floors, install new flooring, plumbing, electrical, cabinets and appliances. They were open to suggestion and made valuable suggestions. While they were here we started the "might as wells", when you have a good contractor you hang on to them. We did our upstairs bedroom, spare room, office and part of our living room in shiplap. Their attention to detail was appreciated. I am a stickler for detail and they surpassed my expectations. Our home is 75 year old half round log and they made the siding they had to replace outside match perfectly. It is difficult having people around your house for extended periods of time but AMV Interiors was a pleasure to have around. They were respectful. Did not use inappropriate language and had fun while they worked. It made it easier to have people around the house. AMV Interiors was simply great. They worked safely. Cleaned up and left things in order ever day. They hauled away all the debris everyday and when they left the place was clean and ready to use. They made the experience easy and left us with a beautiful house. HIRE AMV Interiors. You will not be disappointed.

We were unable to find pros for your Countertop Contractors project in Watertown, NY

However, we may have pros in another category that can help with your project.

Kitchen remodels average around $21,000 in the United States.

A large part of this cost could be your countertops. Are you adding countertops, maybe during a kitchen remodel? Be sure you do the homework and research before diving into an agreement:

1. Ask About Their Cutting Tools

To make sure that the pieces of stone used in your countertops will fit together flawlessly, countertop installation companies need to use the sharpest cutting tools possible. These types of tools break down and lose their edge over time, so it's important to ask a prospective countertop installation company how old their tools are before you make any commitments.

2. Determine Which Grade They Use

Stone for countertops comes in various grades, and you should only use the highest-grade stone for your countertops. The three types of grades that are used are commercial, standard, and premium, and if you want your counters to be free of pitting and blotches, only working with a company that uses premium-grade stone.

3. Sniff Out Hidden Costs

While some countertop installers only include the cost per square foot in their initial estimates, this might not be the cost you end up paying if you don't ask the right questions. When you ask a company for an estimate, make sure that they include any hidden fees, such as cutout and sealer fees, along with their estimated costs.

Remodeling dreams can come crashing down to earth if you work with the wrong countertop installation company. To make sure new countertops end up looking as good as the end product you're envisioning, follow these simple tips for finding the right countertop installers.
