Whether or not to buy a home containing asbestos is ultimately a decision for the homebuyer, and there are several things to consider. When in good condition and contained, asbestos is unlikely to present a health risk—it’s when those tiny fibers are loose and airborne that they become a problem. Consider any renovations you plan on doing to the home that could disturb existing asbestos and the cost of removal. If an inspection finds asbestos in a home on the market, you could negotiate with the seller for a lower price, though this isn’t a sure thing.

Mold inspections are worth it because they can catch troublesome mold problems early before they get out of hand. It's worth it to address mold problems as soon as possible because mold can be hazardous to your health and cause damage to your home and its belongings. Mold testing and inspections are the best way to know if you have a mold issue in your house.

To check the water pressure in your house, you’ll need to use a water pressure gauge, which you can purchase at your local hardware store. Locate your outside water spigot and attach the gauge (following the manufacturer’s instructions). Normal home water pressure is between 40 and 80 PSI.

You can test your ductwork by hiring a technician to attach a vacuum to the ductwork near the HVAC unit and put the vent system under pressure. Your pro can use a duct leak tester to measure the amount of pressure that's escaping. 

You can also do a DIY test using an incense stick or smoke pencil. With the HVAC system running, pass the stick or pencil across the ductwork. Pay attention to the movement of the smoke. When you notice it changing, it could be a sign there’s a leak or bad connection in the duct.
