"Everything went very smoothly. Sam, the plumber, and is highly professional and knowledgeable. He replaced 3 faucets, 2 sink plugs, two valves, and two supply lines. Sam inspected the p traps, and he added adhesive where it was necessary. Sam also took a look at my two year old hot water heater, and he assessed my water supply to this unit. We discussed performing a complete drain, and check of the components of the heater at a later date. Sam also advised me that a toilet in the basement should be replaced with a more updated commode. Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

The likely culprit is an air lock somewhere in your pipes. This is especially true if the warm water upstairs is accompanied by a decline in water flow. Other causes of this issue include frozen pipes, leaks, damaged supply lines, and more. There’s a simple DIY fix to try for air locks: Turn the hot water and cold water faucets on for a minute, then turn off the cold water and then the hot water. Repeat this process two or three times. 

While a frozen pipe can thaw on its own, that doesn't mean that it should. Allowing your frozen pipes to thaw on their own can cause serious damage to your plumbing system, water damage in your home, and costly leaks from pipes that are hard to find. The best way to thaw a frozen pipe is by increasing warm air circulation to the pipes. Better yet, take steps to prevent your pipes from freezing at all. 

Building codes don’t allow homeowners or businesses to run sewer pipes and water lines in the same trench for safety and environmental purposes. If the sewer line started leaking, it would risk contaminating the water supply to your house, which threatens the health of you and your family. These lines need to be in separate trenches and may need to be separated both horizontally by around 5 to 10 or more feet and vertically by 12 to 18 or more inches.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage or shed can increase the value of your house, especially if the garage is properly insulated, conditioned, and finished so that it can serve as additional living space—as a rental property, for guests, or as an in-law suite. However, it’s unlikely that the cost to add plumbing to a detached garage will increase the property value enough to recoup your investment (and don’t forget: you’ll likely see increased property taxes after the renovation).
