"My attic was poorly ventilated — damp, musty, and overdue for attention. After deciding to bring in a professional, Randy came out to my home, thoroughly assessed the problem areas, and put together a detailed quote on the spot. The scope of work included removal of the existing insulation, air sealing around all attic entry points, sanitizing, air baffle installation, and installation of new Weather Blanket cellulose insulation. The new cellulose achieves an R-value that meets or exceeds Illinois code requirements. I couldn't be happier with the results. I've already noticed a meaningful improvement in temperature consistency and overall comfort throughout my home. If you're looking for a trustworthy, professional insulation contractor, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Paragon Insulation & Services."

"Very professional and courteous team. Five team members where here for six hours installing, new fan roof vents, removing old duct work including a bird nest, installed new vents between the beams, discovered builder originally did not properly insulate one area above master bath and corrected that area too. Had insulation blown in very deep to R49 and once done with house attic had garage attic also fixed and insulation installed. We have seen a big improvement, bedrooms are so warm now we keep thermostat on 63 or 65 from midnight to 0800 and 65 to 67 during the day. Garage is not freezing anymore and recently with temperatures at 30 to 10 degrees outside the garage is still between 47 to 43 which keeps any garden, household or automotive products from freezing out there which helps with storage of these products. A professional team from evaluation, quotes, installation, office scheduling, payments and follow-up. Highly Recommended. Thank you, Robert USN Retired"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The most insulative type of insulation for behind drywall is spray foam insulation, but this is the most expensive insulation available. The most common insulation—sometimes considered the best for the value you get for the money—is fiberglass roll or fiberglass batt insulation, which is significantly more affordable but also far less insulative. The best kind of insulation for your house will also vary based on the climate in your area, your budget, and more. A professional insulation company can help you decide which type is best for your home.

Chimney liners often benefit from insulation, though it is not always required. Insulation helps improve the liner's efficiency by keeping flue gasses hotter, which enhances draft and reduces creosote buildup. It also prevents condensation, which can lead to corrosion. Insulation is important for chimneys on exterior walls or in colder climates. Some building codes may require insulation, so checking local regulations is essential.

High humidity, bad insulation, warmth from sunlight, and poor circulation are all reasons your home’s hotter inside than out. While this is what you want in the colder months, summer can become unbearable if this is a constant. Try to find the cause, but you need to remember that issues like this require a permanent fix (unless you want to bear down during the summer months).

Drywall insulation costs around $1,800, on average, but prices can range from $500 to $4,500, depending on a few different factors. The following things are important considerations to make when pricing out your insulation project:

  • Square footage of insulation

  • Type of insulation

  • Climate in your area and the insulation R-value required

  • Whether or not your walls are already finished

  • Accessibility of the area

  • Whether or not you need old insulation removed first

For standard 2x4 walls, the ideal insulation has an R-value between R-13 and R-15. This level of insulation, typically around 3.5 inches thick, fits well within the wall cavity. Common options include fiberglass batts and spray foam. The best choice for your home can depend on your climate; use R-value maps, like those from Energy Star, to determine the recommended level for your region. For colder climates, you might also consider adding exterior insulation for greater efficiency. Always check with your local building codes to ensure you meet any required standards.
