"It went great. The crew arrived when they said they would and started work immediately. The whole crew were friendly and very good at their job. The job went very well and I know I will have a great looking lawn soon. Rodrigo kept me informed as to how the job was progressing. He also made sure to let me know how often I should water. I would surely recommend Blue Star landscaping to anyone who needs landscaping service."

"GV Landscaping have only been to our home twice so far this year and we are very pleased with their Excellent work! They are very careful around new growth during the initial cleanup - great performance by the crew who are all nice and professional. So far they have met our expectations and are thankful that they were available for the season since I only recently contacted them."

"I need it to updated my front yard. The river stones were falling apart around the tree and the tree was dying. Optimal Landscaping assisted me with the project idea. The retaining wall and the small plants look fabulous, I love it.❣️"

"This business was the only one of the five recommended by Home Advisor that actually followed up with my request. Matt came to the house to provide an estimate of the work I needed done. They were priced very fairly. They took down sucker trees that had grown up unwanted, they helped cultivate areas where unwanted vines weeds and plants had taken over and they trimmed out of control bushes. This is the kind of work I need help with annually--it's not quite landscaping but heavy lifting that I can no longer do. They were courteous, engaging, and their clean up was excellent."

"Shawn was super thorough and his prices were terrific for our Spring clean up. The crew was here right on time, did the work we agreed to and went well above and beyond the work I had wanted. They cleaned up our flowerbeds, removed all debris and leaves, edged and mulched the flower beds and even added some extra work by planting some bulbs that were ready to go in the ground (or go in the garbage). He has an amazing breadth of knowledge and ideas for landscaping next Spring and truly put some beautiful, personal touches to the work he did. He worked alongside his crew and they worked so hard, and asked me to show them exactly where I wanted non-existing flower beds to start and stop. Other landscaping companies gave me much higher estimates for the work Happy Grass did and I can't wait to see what he creates for us next year! I highly recommend this company and have neighbors that already use his services. I couldn't be happier!!!!!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Xeriscaped lawns are far more varied than many gardeners initially assume. The often-pictured rocky and cacti-filled landscapes are just one option. Many wildflower-, herb-, and mulch-covered landscapes follow the same principles without straying too far from the lush and colorful landscapes we have come to know. In fact, there are numerous xeriscape ideas for customizing an energy-efficient lawn to your liking.

Hedges can be trimmed in many other shapes than the standard square shape. They can be cut into spiral, cone, and sphere shapes. However, cutting and maintaining these types of shapes is much more challenging. There are metal frames that you can purchase to place around the hedge to make it much easier.

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.

Yes, landscaping costs are generally a worthwhile investment that can increase your property value. Landscaping can boost your home's value by up to 30% by improving its curb appeal, which can help it sell faster and for a higher price. Specific projects have a high return on investment (ROI); for example, revamping a front walkway can offer a 100% ROI, while a pristine, well-manicured lawn can deliver an impressive 217% ROI. In addition to the financial returns, you also get to enjoy the improvements, especially with features like an outdoor living area.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.
