"KJM Plumbing, Kurt, responded quickly to my request for a quote on replacing our leaking water heater. He quoted installing a high quality, Bradford White unit at a reasonable price. The plumber who did the full installation was a very skilled, professional and friendly worker. The final invoice had no unexpected charges and included a nice breakdown of the major portions of the project. I highly recommend KJM Plumbing, for work in the Madison, WI area."

"The plumber was very friendly and professional. The price they quoted me was over $200 less than other plumbers for the same level of service. I was very pleased with the competence of the plumber. He took the time to explain the controls to me, the type of salt I should use, and how much salt for my new water softener. He was an hour late, however he finished the job in less time than I was quoted."

"Mickey, our installer, was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. He even took time to help reattach the discharge hose when the installation was completed. I did find some small stones and debris in the corner after he left. Likely from the old sump pump. I chose Blau without doing a lot of comparison shopping. I asked for a breakdown of material costs and labor costs. But was told they only provide installed cost estimates. After some further research, I now feel I could have gotten a lower price elsewhere, but I am satisfied with my purchase. Cheapest is not always the best."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

Yes, it’s normal (and beneficial) to have a small amount of water in the bottom of your sump pit. It shows that your system is collecting groundwater, rain, and excess water from around your property—just like it’s supposed to. However, if the sump pit is always full, you might have a leak or a faulty sump pump.

Grinder pumps alone cost $300 on average. The average cost to install a new grinder pump is between $2,000 and $4,000, including the pump and labor. This price can also change based on the exact type of grinder pump you choose, labor costs in your area, and the power system your home currently has.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

If your water pump fails, the first step is to turn off the power to the pump to prevent any further damage. Check for common issues such as clogs, electrical problems, or mechanical failures. If you cannot identify the problem, contact a professional who specializes in pump repairs. Prompt action can help minimize damage and repair costs.
