Custom One Construction's motto is "exceeding expectations". We make it our priority to ensure that the job is done right, in a timely manner, and when we walk out the door, the customer is happy. The owners Jeff and Chris have combined experience of over 30 years in construction, and have amassed a wide range of knowledge in multiple fields. Most of our estimates are free. No job is too big or too small. We are neither the cheapest company nor are we the most expensive, but our work is of the highest quality. We do not have a fancy business office, drive big shiny trucks, or staff a fast-talking salesman. When we arrive at the jobsite, it is just Jeff and Chris. So we can afford to offer reasonable rates! Despite this difficult economy, Custom One Construction LLC. has grown simply by word of mouth, and we believe there is something to be said about that. We have references to help ease your mind when considering a project with us. Additional service areas: Scott, Washington & portions of Goddhue & Carver Counties

Owner-operated. No subs. Free Estimates. Cost is determined by the job. No travel charges. No service charges. No extra charge for after hours service. May contact through email.

"Experienced and highly knowledgable in multiple disciplines (plumbing, electrical, woodworking- and that's just what I know of). Cares about getting the job done right. A true professional. Plan to hire again. One point off because I think he needs to modernize the tools he uses for scheduling and planning. He's very much in demand so using proper tools to take care of those things would make life simpler for everyone."

"I first met Jeff Moore of Capital Siding, Windows and Roofing in 2018.  It was time to reroof my 110+ year-old house (that has more hips and angles than a fashion show) and I wanted to do it right.  I took 5 bids (6 if you count the company that was a no-show) and ended up with a range of bids that varied by nearly $20,000.   Capital came in near the midpoint of the bids but it wasn't the price that sold me - it was the care they put into their bid and the feeling I got from Jeff and, later, his son Danny.  They included more detail than any of the other companies I considered and I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Jeff over the course of a couple of weeks where he answered all of my questions and explained all of my options.  Jeff struck me right from the start as an earnest, straight-up guy who was giving me his best offer.  No posturing, no pressure, just a good offer and a good feeling. Undertaking a major project on my house, my biggest asset, was stressful.  I was worried about everything.  Is this a fair price?  Is this the right company?  Will the crew stay on schedule?  Will they damage the property with their equipment?  Do I have any idea what I am doing?  Ultimately, you have to make a decision and for me, that's usually going with a gut feeling.  My gut said Capital so I signed the contract. Once work got underway, Azael, Jeff's primary crew chief, was on site every day.  He's a great guy, easy to talk to, always with a smile and a laugh.  The crew did their work, cleaned up every day, and kept the materials organized.  Couldn't ask for more.  Jeff and Danny came out several times during the project and we spoke by phone regularly.  Calls were usually returned the same day and always by the next day.  Changes (like my decision to add gutter covers) were handled clearly and easily and there were no financial surprises at all.  They did an excellent job. If I could do it again, would I choose Capital?  Wellllll...yes.  In fact, I did!   In August of 2023, while I was out of town with my family, our house got walloped by the big hail storm that rolled through Minneapolis.  By the time we got home a week later, work had already started on 4 houses on my block.   My first call was to Capital and they came out a day later.  My beautiful roof and old siding had taken major damage.  Danny and one of the roofing crew walked every inch of my roof and took over 100 pictures.  The damage was significant but the integrity of the roof was intact.  Because of the severity of the storm, Jeff was booked until very late in the season so we decided to push it until the spring of 2024.  That turned out to be a good decision as I spent a good portion of the winter arguing with my insurance company.  Every time they sent an adjuster or someone to take pictures or get a materials sample, one of Jeff's team was present.  I finally got things sorted out with insurance, spring arrived, and Oscar, Capital's other crew chief who is just as approachable and friendly and great as Azael, came out with his guys and got going.  They did another beautiful job on the roof and the siding is just fantastic.  They did tons of hand-bent aluminum work to mimic the architectural detail my insurance wouldn't cover.  I think it looks better than it did originally.  My wife and I are completely happy with the work and love with the way our house looks now. Total satisfaction with two excellent jobs six years apart is no fluke. Capital is as solid as they come and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Thanks again to Jeff, Danny, Mike, Azael, Oscar, and everyone at Capital. - Tim in Minneapolis"

When I was 5, mom caught me taking apart a watch and a toaster at my grand parents home. She scolded me, but grandpa insisted that she let me be. I fixed the toaster. The watch, well it didn’t work in the first place. When I was 15, my mom hired my cousin Jim, 10 years my senior, to finish our basement. Being an ever curious young man, I asked Jim questions and he put me to work alongside him. We worked a night or two a week for 2 years. Then Jim became busy raising his own family and work came to a standstill. Mom wanted the basement finished for my older sisters’ graduation. Jim asserted that I could finish it. I wasn’t so sure, but he said he’d tell me what to do over the phone. He did, and the job was completed on time, much to the delight and pride of mom. In 1977 I purchased and lived in a duplex. I graduated Vo-Tech in 1971 with "Outstanding Student" and "Perfect Attendance" Awards. In 1980 I purchased and live in one side of a double bungalow. The ensuing 21 years of pulling permits, passing city, fire department and HUD inspections made for an excellent background to performing construction, installation and repairs properly. From 1972 to 1983 I worked for Gould Battery (also known as GNB). I worked in engineering at the Mendota Heights facility. I was a product and applications technologist, a fancy title, but it contributed to my handyman skills by requiring problem solving. Some of the engineers owned duplexes and we would problem solve together at lunchtime. Hence, many of the jobs I got, challenge me to solve a problem along the way to making the repair, installation. In 1995 I began my Handyman business. In 1997 I sold my duplexes. In 1998, I got my license and became incorporated. Today I enjoy listening for and producing my customers intended results. “Being Of Service - I Love It” John Thomas CEO, The Handyman Can®!!! Inc. "I think we may be on the 3rd or 4th project we've hired him for - everything from hanging Christmas lights to repairing exterior stairs and a bedframe. Always great work, super good at communicating and his price is fair for the piece of mind of knowing he'll get the job done, done well, and if it happens to be something he isn't able to do himself he is upfront and honest about it and will refer you to someone who can do it. Always a great experience with Johnny, our go-to handyman!"

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Most installations take 1-3 days, depending on the number of blocks and customization requirements.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.

Glass block windows cost about $710 to install, ranging from $460 to $980. The cost factors of installing this type of specialty window include the opening size, design, layout, height, glass block type, installation type, and location. There are many block styles to choose from, including colored, clear, wavy, diamond, and frosted.

Consider the following price ranges of installing glass blocks based on size:

  • 25-by-25 inches: $60–$300

  • 31-by-31 inches: $65–$350

  • 36-by-36 inches: $85–$475

  • 48-by-48 inches: $155–$840

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they’re still susceptible to breaking. If your glass block window shatters, contact a window repair professional to remove and replace the glass block. Don’t attempt to handle it yourself because the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A window repair pro will have the tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly. Before hiring, be sure to confirm the repair pro has experience with repairing or replacing that specific type of window.

Their thickness depends on application, but most glass walls are typically 3/8 to 3/4 of an inch thick. Although it’s not as common, single panes of glass can also be 1 inch thick.
