"Innovative Basement Authority provided repairs on one wall, added a sum pump and installed drain tile. Brenden B, Wyatt S and Travis S provided an exceptional service. They were professional, knowledgeable, left the area clean at all times and made sure I understood everything before they finished the project."

I initially had a poor interaction with Mike that did not result in solving the above plumbing problem above. However, he has since connected with me and resolved the issue fairly.  He did an excellent job the first time I hired him (successfully unclogging a tub drain). Even though the second time we hired him was not successful (and we had to hire a second plumber to resolve the problem) we will use him in the future because he reached out to resolve our concerns in a professional manner.

"I am very happy with the job that was done.  I appreciated the quick response to my problem from Rich.  I had pipes leaking in my basement.  Since this is an old house, I needed asbestos removed before a plumber could work on the pipes. He and the 2 men who did the work were professional, punctual, courteous and helpful.  I would recommend this company.

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Yes, before you can connect to a public sewer, you must gain permission from the water company near you. You'll also need to ensure that you comply with local regulations prior to connecting to a public sewer line. Apply to your local water authority by looking at their website for an application or by giving them a call to have your home ready for a seamless sewer line connection.

Pipes are connected in a bathroom by a 3/4-inch to 1-inch line running from your water meter into your home. The line then splits, with the hot water line going to your water heater and the cold water line running into your home. The cold water line leads to the 1/2-inch water supply lines for your home’s toilet, tub, and sink. The hot water line runs from the water heater to all sinks and baths.

You definitely can over-tighten toilet tank bolts. Unlike some other materials, porcelain can’t bend or flex, so when you over-tighten a screw into it, it could break against the added pressure. Only tighten them as much as needed to keep them in place and firm; any more and you could risk breaking the porcelain.

If you have to hold the toilet handle (also called the toilet lever) down to flush, you probably have a chain problem. A chain that cannot fully lift the flapper will close too early and not clear the toilet bowl. Try adjusting the chain length so there’s about ½ inch of slack.

Sealant doesn’t need to be applied to the bolts, but it can be a good way to stop an active leak in the moment. However, don’t rely on it as a cure-all; instead, make sure to fix the problem at the source by changing or tightening the bolts.

If you do use sealant, make sure to spread it thickly and evenly across the bolts and the tank's porcelain.
